Try a Hustler......Simple.......Once you try one no one will have to explain why it's better........

Once you decide on a WB - Demo them all - Find one that fits you, then visit the Flex-Deck Sponsor forum for pics of the Flex-Deck on a WB - It makes a WB into something pretty special as to trimming and contour mowing, and increasing production:

Hey Rross
What type of WB you looking for? Hydro, belt? Whats your price range, and also the types of lawns your looking at using it with. Also use the search button on the site, their is tons of information on this site reguarding WB's.
I have a Scag 52inch Advantage fixed deck with at 17Kaw on it with a Jungle Jim velkie. Its a hydro, i love it and how its so easy to use once you get the hang of driving one. The thing stripes beautifully, and so far no engine or hydro problems, and from reading things about Scag WB's they are one of the best that have very few hydro problems or engine problems on the WB's.
So i would take a look at Scag and demo one.
Bought mine for $5200

I've run x-mark don't like the traction on hills, ran a bunton just too bulky then switched to scag. Scag simply the best.

This will be for residential yards, I like the idea of mulching, so I'll be mulching with it, most of the yards are smaller, like a 1/4 acre or so, with some trees and some tight spots so I figure on a 36 -46 inch mower, gear or hydro better, I have a large hrdo ZTH 6125 from husqvarna now, awesome mower, likes to scalp the grass though, but if you get use to it, and can control it, its wonderful.

I guess Hoss is too busy at the moment to chime in, so I'll say it for him..."Once you go Red, you never go back !!!" :D

I like Exmark. They mulch very well and are built to last as many commercial units are. It really comes down to what you like and works best for your operation. Dealer support is a big issue as well. Demo them before you buy. I like hydro over belt, but hydros are more expensive. I won't get into details between the two. Apparently to some people, I know nothing, so I won't say anything. I paid $4800 for an Exmark Turf Tracer 36" demo unit with 10 hours, Jungle wheels, and mulch kit. Good luck!

Hey Scag48
I think its time you change your name then, buying Exmark, and your name says Scag somethings wrong there :p
Just like tailoredlook said "Simply the Best" Scag.

i havent been a fan of their turf tigers but i absolutely love the hydro scag walkbehinds.

Ours cuts great stripes great and is built like a tank very tough machine.

Cranck up the rpms a little and it even cuts better.

As much as I'm not over-joyed with the cut of my SCAG 48" Belt WB, I really feel that it is built better (heavier) than an Exmark Metro. The pistol grip angles are better too! Not to mention the complicated Exmark Pistol lever locks. The SCAG has heavier gauge handle bars, and a few other items making them a little tougher. The Exmark Metro cuts better, and has rear axle height adjustment. I like the SCAGS use of electric clutches and 17hp Kawi's on their belt drives (while exmark only offers the 15 on the Metro). Exmark has gotten way better in their walkbehinds, back in the late 80's they were a real joke, and considered very "entrylevel".

They are both good machines. Buy what makes YOU happy.

I cant comment on a Husqvarna, as there aren't any dealers for their big equipment around me.

If you want the mulching ability there is nothing on the market that can mulch like an eXmark. You get the bagged look. Exmark is right here on this forum so you can get them at any time if you have questions or problems. You can't get that from the other companies, and that kind of support is real important at times. Customer service after the sell by eXmark is second to none in the industry.

i agree in the late 80's when exmark first came out they were just like all the other mowers out there but i must say they have come along way with there decks now .
i just upgraded from a late 80's belt drive 48 to a 52" turf tracer and there is no comparison the new exmark blows away the fixed deck mowers with ease of hieght adjustment and the wider stance makes it great on hills not to mentsion the mulch kit you can put on it WOW I love being able to trim with both side of the deck and not worrying about blowing grass , rocks and any other thing you can run over onto cars and walks
I myself think even though your not gunna be changing the height on your mower alot being able to do it with a few pins rocks

dont get me wrong i think scags are great mowers but i see them going to a floating type deck like exmark and toro in the next few years to keep up with the comp :)
I myself dont think dealer support is that big of a deal if you can work on them yourself once warrenty is done your on your own , ive always worked on my own mowers since day one when they were all gear drive belt drive tanks . in 1981 i worked for a guy that had a fleet of 52" buntons thats all we used and working on them was pretty easy but the new class of mowers has alot more elctrical gizmos on them so its alot harder for a guy that is not mecanicaly minded to do his own work

Consider the new Walk behind that Walker is producing. Who else has a mower that you can interchange decks from a ZTR rider to a Walk behind mower?????
This will become the most versatile mower on the market and the way it is designed it has the flip up deck features that no one else has either.

I Think If They Can Get someone To Use It You would get an Exmark.
