While going home from work this evening my employee (Chris Denman) was involved in an accident. He had stopped to help a disabled motorist. He was standing in between 2 construction barriers helping to direct traffic when an oncoming car somehow hit him. His is in the hospital with severe head and knee injuries. Amazingly enough there were no broken bones. The police were already there and was witness to everything. One officer told his sister at the hospital that he was surprised he lived through it. Thank you to all on this forum for your past & future advice. And thank you in advance for your prayers in this situation.

Where in this world are you going to find people like Chris?? Ill tell you .... FEW and FAR between. My Dad and i use to stop and help out at accident sites, stranded motorists, hitchikers .... you name it. In todays world i would roughly guess that 80% of the people would not even consider stopping to help. I still do once in awhile, but in todays SUE-HAPPY enviroment you MUST be extremely careful. People like Chris are a rare breed. He was in my prayers before i wrote this and will continue to be. Please keep us updated Totalawn.

As of this morning...
I called his house for an update. His mother came in from MO. She said that he is home now. The CAT scan showed everything was good. He received 20some stitches in his eye and his knee is very swollen. The Dr. say he will be picking glass from his eye and head for approx. 2 weeks. (I don't know why they can't get it out at the hospital?)

Thank You for your continued prayers!!

Chris sounds like a truly great person to stop to help another human in this day and age! I wish him a very speedy recovery. Please treat him like gold, as it is very hard to find a person willing to help another they do not know in non-caring world.

It is sad to hear that Chris was being a good person and someone hit him but I am glad to hear that he's getting better.

Too MANY IDIOTS are on road today than ever. If DMV would make everyone take a "smart test", only half of them would pass. As a volunteer firefighter, I routine do traffic directing and I cannot tell you how hard it is to concentrate on one thing because you have to watch yourself and everyone else around you. There are so many times that firefighters in my fire co. nearby got killed. I'm telling you, there are crazy drivers everywhere. There was a few times that I could have got hit but I avoided. Last month one of firefighter had a VERY CLOSE, I do mean VERY CLOSE call, twice. A truck barely missed him by a few inches. Be careful out there!

Get well quick dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wxmn6; if they gave a smarts test there would only be about 1/100th of the cars on the raod.

I am sorry to hear about what happened to your worker, I wish him the best and hope he is well soon.
In regards to the smart test and related subjects ... here on Long Island, as well as many other places too I am sure, the state and OSHA are pushing towards having the vests that construction workers, police, fireman, etc. wear while out in busy streets to be the electric "lime green" color for better visability. It seems that there have been to many occurances where motorists have been hitting these workers and public servants ... saying that they blend in with or appear to be traffic cones or barrier barrels. Gee, I guess that means that you actually can "hit" those barrels and cones afterall.....

As I said before, he is at home recovering. He has SEVERE pain in his left knee.

More info on the accident:
He was on the phone with 911 due to the accident that he witnessed and was directing traffic away from when he was hit. The girl that hit him was doing 40+ mph. She said that she seen something in the road but thought she could go over it....it was Chris!!
However, she was VERY appologetic. She went to the hospital to check on him and pray with him. Not that it changes the fact that she needed to PAY ATTENTION. Just that she seems like a good person.

Thank You!!!!!

as long as she wasn't reapplying he lipstick, or on her cell phone making a dinner date with her girlfriend, then i guess its ok. we all have had our bad driving days...unfortunetly chris had to be in the wrong place wrong time. not to mention going the extra mile to help someone in need. its a real shame

don't forget, he's still here.....c:angel: could have been worse :(

Glad to hear he is doing better.

I have said for a long long time that there needs to be a shrink eval before every driver license given out. But how would you enforce that, plenty of people drive now with NO license or it is suspened.

If that person had hit me I would be in the process of owning them.

We are glad to read that this fine young man is doing well. It's hard to say where Gods' plans will lead us. But, one thing is for sure he was protected by Gods' hand in this near death accident. Best wishes to him and his family. Duke

TotalLawn,

I see that you are a registered user from Tulsa. Did this accident happen in Tulsa? If so where? I work in Tulsa, but didn't hear about the accident. Wish the best for you and your employees. May God continue to watch over you.

There was a similar story here on the news tonight. A car with three occupants stopped to help a car acident and the driver was struck. Unfortunately both the accident victim and the good samaritan were killed.

I am sorry to hear about this story. Hope everything turns out for the best.

It was on 61st between Memorial and Sheridan. Just about right in front of the Raquet ball club. At 8:30 p.m. As far as I know there was nothing said about it on the news.
