Does anyone use the newer Pro-Series XT trimmers with the M-Series engine by John Deere?

So far this post is 0 for 55 views. Nobody must run these things! I just thought I would ask since I might be able to get one at dealer cost and save a little. Doesn't seem like to good of an idea now.

While I am a fan of green, the last I knew was the JD trimmers and chain saws were Homelite painted in JD colors. I would think twice about it.

Go Redmax, I loved my BC2600s.

There are 2 line of John Deere these days. The homlites with green plastic they sell for residential use at Home Depot. Then there is the commercial line that onlt JD dealers carry.

I've compaired them and nothing is the same. Go on John Deere's site and look at them. I'm still leary though because I see no one uses them.

I have a JD edger. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with either a Stihl of something else.

if i heard right, i believe john deere has divorced homelite. the company that was called olympic has been aquired i believe also great dane . olympic makes a quality
piece of equipment.the name efco i think is the new name if memory serves me.. as to whether deeres midmounts are really danes i couldnt say but it would make sense. they already got the yellow ,all they gotta do is trim in green. then they can charge the green paint surcharge that
turned me away from them to start with.

I use a JD trimmer and had no problems. It even cut a sprinkler pipe in half....wasn't to happy with it that day:D But I have put this thing through some heavy duty use and no problem at all.

I run them. If there is a John Deere dealer close by stop and take a look. Very happy with mine.
These trimmer are not the Home Depot homelites. But anyone in the bussiness knows that.

Would you guys mind posting the model #'s you use? I have went and looked at these...

XT 105 $215
XT 120 $280
XT 140 $300

They didn't have anything bigger on display. The 140 seemed like plenty of a handfull anyways.

These are NOT home depot homlites!

Even though I could have gotten any one of these Deere trimmers for even less than I listed on here, I done went and bought a Stihl FS 85 today. Paid too much for it too I think. Oh well, I hope I'm happy with it and get many years of service.

Envy,
I think you will love your Sthil. I love mine and would never own anything else. What did you pay for it? I think they are going for $320 around here.

I paid $330 after tax. I think that's a little more than it should be. I believe I got stuck with about $10 over MSRP + tax. I could have saved atleast $30 if I had bought it from a smaller place.

I have the 140 and so far its great not one problem out of it in the 1 1/2 years, also have the older model with the homelite engine however this one is yellow like the 140 just does not have as much power.

XT 140 works great for me. Plenty of power, first start most of the time.
I also have a CS56 chainsaw. Decent machine. Could be a little better but could be alot worse.

Sorry so late to respond, I had a virus and was down for a little while. Yes, it is and was a commercial grade edger. The engine runs fine. The switch has gone bad and bolts want to come lose. I paid $299 for it. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone with the Stihl edger.
