View Full Version : exmark zero turn steering adjustment help
just curious if anyone knows the proper steps to adjust and line up the zero turn steering i know it has something to do with the two nuts under the seat just not sure of the steps to really properly line it up........right now someone messed with ours so the arms aren't lined up properly so when you go to stop one side will brake abruptly/early and its a pain in the ass to compensate so you don't tear up the lawn....
any help would be great maybe you have to jack the rear up and do it that way?
bump bump........there's things in the manual i've tried seems the damn brakes aren't lined up so when you try to slow down to turn one side always grabs before the other.
Lift the rear tires off the ground. Put it on jack stands or use a chain hoist.
With the steering levers in the neutral position, adjust the length of the link rods that connect the steering levers to the pumps. Either lengthen or shorten until the wheel stops moving. That's all there is to it.
thanks i tried it once its almost aligned but a little off if i put both in full reverse one side is going mroe than the other so i veer off to one side....forward i can keep straight easily......when i make this adjustment do i keep the arms in the neutral (park) slot or do i pull them out and hold them in neutral? if i pull them out and let them go the machine and the arms will move forward...any suggestions? if i'm correct on this i should be able to pull it out and go put the wheels in reverse........when i let go the machine and the arms should pop back into neutral and not go forward at all unless i move the arms forward......right now these arms will pop back in neutral and then proceed to move forward slowly.
Yep, just leave the arms in the neutral slot when making the adjustment. If gravity alone pulls the arms forward when you take them out of neutral, it may be time to replace your steering dampers.
thanks i'll retry the adjustment.....should i pop it out and put it in reverse first before making the adjustment as typically if you just jack it up i don't think the tires will be spinning at all until you move a lever and let it back into neutral again. i'm also going to try and readjust the reverse indicator it seems the left side is a little lose if its going farther in reverse than the right side causing that wheel to move faster and send me off course. any input on the brake adjustments? i think they are ok but like i said when i try and come to a stop usually the left arm will grab before the right so i'm skidding at times and tearing up the lawn.
