Usually I keep the key in my stander when transporting from one job to the other. Got to a ballbustin jobsite over the weekend and NO KEY. Tried the screwdriver but no go. Had to wait until Monday AM to get a replacement key. Never happened to me before...how 'bout that?

Someone told me when I first started to ALWAYS keep a spare key somewhere.
Why?

Because, it could fall out!

(Oddly enough in 10 years I don't think any of mine ever have)

All mine use the same key, that I've never pulled out. Its funny how a $900 crapsman uses the same key as a $10,000 Exmark, oh well don't take much to get any of them going.

I keep a spare for every piece of equipment on my truck key ring. I never leave it in the machine while in transport. Live n learn.

Sounds like a rookie mistake to me. I have 2 keys for my Dixie. One that is the universal key that every mower uses and a real key that is like a golf cart key. There are spares available.

About a year ago, I was mowing one of my customers lawn and when I finished I went to shut the mower off and the key was gone. I had a ring on it along with the keys to unlock my other equipment. Well don't you know after about 15 mins. walking the lawn I found them. So now I keep the mower key safety wired to the mower so it cant get lost.

The key on my turf tiger pops out all the time so i just put a little piece of string on the key and tied it to the throttle. Luckily when it fell out before the string it just ended up on the trailer floor. I run all scag and the use the same key so I keep one spare in the truck just in case.

No kidding. My garden tractor I paid $900 at Walmart has the same key as my Scag I paid $10000 for at the dealer. In reality, that's all they need I guess.

i have a spare at home and all my keys are on the keychain with my truck keys so the mower key is never in the mower during transport
