View Full Version : Mortar matching

I work in the midwest and am trying to repair a few loose stone on a wall approximately 50-60 years old. I usually use Brixment type S and course sand but it ends up to light of a grey. I was wondering what others did to help give their 'new' mortar an aged look.
Use a buff mortar or dye it.

More than anything it's probably "washed out", along with has a layer of dirt.
Give the new mortar two years and it otta be close!

I tried a little vinegar on the newly dried mortar. It helped a bit but not enough.

Old colonial mortar looks a bit better when matching to old brick.
first rule with concrete products...... MECAP (match Existing as CLOSE as possible)
and NEVER guarantee a color of anything especially with colored concrete and mortars.
