View Full Version : Getting pulled over a lot more this year?

So I'm curious to see if you guys have noticed an increase in traffic stops and inspections. I know I have!

This year we've had 4 dot inspections...(starting from April)

One of my trucks that is heavily modified (100% legal in every mod) has been stopped 18 times in 3 months!

I know it may sound like I'm venting but this is getting ridiculous. That truck was even "target ticketed" for 3 miles over the speed limit when I was sandwiched in between 4 cars front, 3 to the back, and I walked out with a $297 speeding ticket!?

This year in particular I've been having many issues and its effecting my abilty to conduct business. I've had the truck inspected by my local police and he said there is nothing illegal in how its equipped and there is no reason to spot check it for height, tires, dot numbers, lighting, amber permits, etc...

I don't know if they like giving me a hard time or just need money for the state. So far they've received no money from me as everything has been thrown out. Anyone else having issue?

Contact your state rep, senator, governor and anyone else you can think of and pitch a fit.

Remind them of how gov't needs business and taxes are what pay their salaries, etc and that you seem to be being discriminated, etc.

I have only been pulled over once in the last 3 years because i had a light out on my trailer.

Been followed 1 car length behind for 5 or 6 turns the other day for about 3 miles that pissed me off. But Iv only been pulled over 2 times in the 9 years iv been in business. Once for a seat belt that I put on before I pulled over so I got a rather annoyed warning. And the other was just plain silly the plate on my trailer wasn't commercial but the truck was. So obviously Id committed a serious crime that cop followed me 2 times for a total of 10 miles before he pulled me over. Cost me like a 100 at dmv and half a day a worthless warning. You said you've been pulled over 18 times I would have been chewing out the chief after 5 times. Almost sounds like the cops are part time landscapers trying to run you out of town. Don't laugh they do things like that a few years back a strip bar in new haven kept getting raided so they got and injunction and it stilled happened. Turns out a LT had stock in a different club and was trying to shut the new one down and he got fired for that.

what is heavily modified?

Well I have raised hell in these towns and have been talking to my lawyer with further steps to take. As for modifications the truck is lifted, offroad tires, fully strobed out, many aux lights, marker lighting, 200' of tow chain are in there too, and yes it's red. All modifications are legal and are within regulation. Had the truck inspected to double check on top of my research. All the mods are FOR BuSINESS for not only landscaping as what I use it for.

Well, there's the problem, if it only sat 3 inches from the ground, had more aluminum in 21" wheels than a full beer truck of cans, had dark tinted windows with full wrap chrome accent and rumbled like a thunderstorm, you'd never get pulled over. It all comes under hiding behind the NAACP at that point..

Not for show? Please. A big lift and off-road tires have no practical purpose in landscaping and in fact make the truck less usable. All "strobed out?" If you do extensive night work in traffic then I understand. If you don't, you're just a dork with strobes on your truck. If you are driving perfectly legally than I suppose the cops are going a little hard on you. But if you have a big loud exhaust with a chip that overfuels and dumps out black smoke than you are just asking for it. Drive like a professional in a truck that looks professional, not flashy and you should never get pulled over.

Why do you think I'm complaining? I have a perfect driving record, an exhaust on my truck and it's quiet. I do extensive night work YES. I do work in some of the most remote areas with 10" of mud and water YES. Is a lift and off road tires needed? YES. Do you read the post before you say things? I'm not being a jackass, it's working, not only for landscaping! Read before you say things in prejudice based on the circumstances.

I have to agree with the people saying that your asking for it. Your a target. Is it fair? NO. But its the truth. It also does not look professional. If it was just a toy for you it looks fun. For a work truck? If you drove up to my house to give an estimate i would be laughing at you. I would have many jokes in my mind by the time you left. Just being honest man. No dissrespect meant.

The reason you are getting pulled over for one is the chains and binders hanging off the back of your truck. Their not secured properly and another thing they think your trying to hold something on the front together with that chain and those binders. Throw the chain and binders in the back for a month or two and see if that stops the problem

You can get a 3 month pass. Call your local dot and ask them about it. It is intended for trucks that are pulled over often and have nothing found wrong, this will allow you next time you get pulled over to just head on your way and skip the dot stop. I believe you have to redo it every 3 months.

I've read some real ignorant statements before but you take the cake ! Go to a store and purchase some truck magazines and look at some of the articles on truck shows and tell us what you see. Doesn't look like NAACP convention to me.

I have to agree the truck looks alittle goofy with all the lights and chains hanging off the front, it reminds me of the guys who add all the goofly looking running lights to their big rigs

I have noticed an increase in DOT inspections, especially on the back roads. With most states being broke, is it any wonder.

I like lights. I actually like MORE lights on trucks than LESS. Not only for safety....but I just plain like them.

It is no worse than you putting a landscape in your lawn. Those guys live in the truck. Same difference!

a few comments...you dont need alot of strobes for night work, they are easier to see at night and more lights are blinding. I say for day perhaps you may want a few more as they are harder to see. I always thought they should have dimmers for night. as far as being pulled over, Id send the cheif of police in each town or troop commander a letter explaining it. ask him for return phone call and go in and make a formal complaint for their internal affairs to look into. there are good cops and there are bad cops. if your driving fine and being harrassed, go after them. if your driving like an idiot and they are messign with you, then they are doing their job!

by the way, what towns are messing with you?

Why do the binders need to hang on the front bumper.

Chains and binders look unsafe. Otherwise, that truck would never be pulled over in VA.

I did read the post before I said anything. In fact, what I said was based on what I read. You said the truck was "heavily modified", which paints a picture of a huge lift, monster exhaust and other mods that would draw negative attention. Now that I've seen a picture (same as 1000 words) I see that while your truck has some functional mods but nothing extreme. Can't say why you are getting pulled over, but there is obviously something about the truck or the way it is driven that attracts their attention. Maybe a polite, non-confrontational meeting with the police chief will shed some light on it.

That's my personal truck, it's not modified much. I don't know who pulled that pic out!? Haha that's not it. No worries, I am usually defensive when I answer these posts because it's when I have a minute in the truck to look at my phone :)

Just an update though, I added my many union stickers and blue stripe emblem and what a difference!

So help me understand, what's the problem?
Your getting pulled over is just the police paying you attention.
See, they like your truck, too!

You need to get it out of your head that you do not need to decorate your truck like a Christmas tree with bumper stickers.

state needs money, there doing the same here no reason needed to pull over other than to do a safety inspection and weigh you. They have a state squad and IDOT inspection van follow each other and drive around until they find someone they think they can make some $$ on.

First got my L's I had a nice clean caddy, with some chrome wheels, pulled over every single day, I could be sittin still and get pulled over for improper lane usage or my plate couldn't be read lol took wheels off........ didnt get stopped put them back on and it started again same day!

had my rear tail light cover broke by a cops mag light, he pulled me over because it was broke.

The police have not been bothering me at all. Haven't had any issues at all other then a deserved speeding ticket in I dont know how long. I have a lot of accounts in the snobbiest part of town in my area where the cops are well known by everyone to have nothing better to do than pull over anyone and everyone they can in order to keep the town as bland as possible. Sorry to hear about your issues.

OK man on edit I just saw some pictures of your truck and trailer and that thing is a MESS! Im not surprised you are getting pulled over. Clean it up.

It's died down considerably. haven't done much to any of the trucks and I haven't had any recent issues other than that 18 string of events haha!

Just so everyone knows that red truck that someone pulled out a pic of....isn't my problem truck. Everyone knows that truck and I haven't had any problems with the police in that one.

The truck in the pic that someone posted is just f'in rediculous for work purposes...rockstar wheels, stupid stupid stupid chains hanging off the front, etc. etc. Id pull you over too just to check in make sure someone didnt forget to tighten them down all the way. Thats a cool truck but way overdone and not for work purposes.

Post up a pic of your trouble truck and curious how old you are? Im only 25 and sure, we all went thru our gearhead stages and might have done some odd stuff but the truck posted is just stupid for work.
