I'm set to frame in a new office inside our shop over this winter. Right now I'm considering around 500-600SF with a couple separate small offices inside this. I've been toying around with layouts, but seems I'm a much better landscape designer than I am architect. I searched this forum for threads on offices and nothing shows up. I just need ideas. Functionality is key. Feel free to post a picture of your office......and I don't care how messy or clean it is.

I couldn't seem to upload all the pictures only certain ones but it kind of gives you an idea. This is our current office "cough" storage closet " cough" haha its maybe 144 sq feet. Were starting to out grow it. For right now its very functional. It only needs to get us to the winter. Then were moving into a bigger building and a new office.

Hey, I have that same lamp....

I envision at a minimum of two offices inside, maybe 8x10', but I dunno if I ought to plan for larger. The rest of the office, err addition, would include a break room, area for design work, and work areas for foreman. All this to fit in 500-600SF. I plan to use a ductless heat pump/ AC unit for climate control. I just don't know if I'm being realistic or not.

Here's what I have now. The picture is a couple years old, but nothing has really changed. It's nothing more than a room in my house. I'm tried of having an office here. The 8x10' idea would be smaller than my current office.

I don't know. How much space do you have to work with? Seems like it might be cramped? I need to start thinking about it too. How big is your company?

The shop itself is 5000SF. So room for the office is of no concern. Could even go two story if wanted, not that I want to. Right now I'm just scraping by with what I have, next year there will be big changes. Talking two mowing crews, two install crews, one chemical/maintenance and so on. I'm going to attempt to get away from doing any of the labor myself and work on sales. Most of the reason why I need to get out of the house and into something separately.

I hear ya I'm in the same boat. I was toying with doing an upstairs office. I'm just really not sure how its going to go together. I thought about a break room for the guys but the reality is... why should they be in a break room? haha they shouldn't even be in the shop for more then an total of an hour a day (max) any ways. it just seems like a waste. Who works in the office with you normally? oh and I will never connect the bathroom to the office ever again. haha

Settled on a layout. Outside dimensions will run 20'x28'. Basic floor plan with two 10x12' offices and the rest being one large open area. I figure no need to break up a large around with walls to create crammed quarters.

Bought the wood and drywall yesterday and saved 11% in the form of a rebate from Menards. I'm thinking I should buy the insulation and miscellaneous goods and save even further. :dancing::dancing::dancing:

That sounds like it will work good. Open area for the secretary/front desk (if you have one, then an office for yourself, and then for another salesman or ops manager. Later in the future if you need to expand, I am sure you can do so easily, or build a two story one. If it were me, I would have put in a small little confrence room, just so then if your meeting with customers you can do so outside of your office and discuss any drawings etc, as well as have materials at your disposal for showing instead of having them pile on your desk/drawing board.

A seperate room for a conference table isn't out of the question. We'll just see how well this office space works out for the time being. Before my wife and I bought our house, we where living in a 500some sq ft apartment. This office space will about the same. It's hard to envision what the space will be like until the framing is up. One thing I wish it could have and never will is plumbing and a bathroom attached. I have no desire to rip through 100' of concrete to install such luxuries. ;););)
