Areaeate and de-thatch. Which first?

I have a customer that had his lawn killed with round-up and now wants me to de-thatch, areaeate, fert., and seed. I have told him itmay already be to late but seeing as his grass is dead, he dosen't have much of a choice.
My question is which should I do first de-thatch or areaeate?
By the way he had a soil sample done and told me every thing is good in that department. I am also going to let him know that I will do every thing or nothing next year, his choice.

back drag the yard with a bobcat, then aerate, slit-seed the yard, and mulch it-pennmulch or straw.

depending on how much the aerator churns up the ground, dethacthing may not be required. 65hoss did one the other day that looked tilled after all was done.

I woul just fertilize and slit seed it and see what happens.
