i was doing a little pm to my walk behind the other day, and for the heck of it threw a level on the deck. found that from side to side, it was level, but from front to back, it was not. its about .125 out of level, will this effect cutting quality?

I run my WB 1/8" to 1/4" lower in front/higher in back, helps stripe better and only cutting grass once ( instead of twice if back was lower ) requires less horsepower:cool: Marc

Actually, you should have about 1/4 forward "blade" pitch (meaning the front is 1/4 inch lower than the back). This helps relieve stress on the engine by utilizing the HP to cut the grass on only the forward sweep of the blades as well as giving a better striping appearance.
To measure the forward pitch, make sure the machine is OFF, perhaps pull the plug wire for safety ... reach under the deck and move the blades to a front to back position and measure the very tip at both the front and back of the blade ... the front should be aprox. 1/4 inch lower.
