It's almost a daily occurrence now. Fueling at the Racetrac and somebody comes with some bs story begging for gasoline. Today was a new one. A scrub with a Murray tractor walks over trying to hand me his homemade business card "you know with the serrations from the card stock" saying "I'll take any accounts off your hands you dont want. I dont care how bad they are I can handle them!" Normally I would have a cut a promo on him but I just didn't know what to say. Anybody else have this happen yet?:usflag:

The scrub with a Muarray tractor is, at least, doing something and not a beggar asking you for "gas money" for his car that is down the road.

How does that tie into the title of this post?

He was begging for accounts. He hangs out there everyday. Bothers every LCO that fuels there. One guy offered him a job but he says he can't work for other people.

Here's a worse beggar I run into in the inner city at gas stations - while you're pumping gas, dude walks up with a gas can and gives you some mumbo jumbo about just need a little to finish a yard, blah blah, blah.

1st time, I fell for it - guy couldn't get the spout off the can (obviously just stole that, too), I had to do it (safety tab). As he was walking away the thought hit me - hey, that guy just peddled you for $3.00. Knew damn well he was heading for his '82 Coupe de Ville so he could get to the next sucker.

Never again. Never.

Yep, I get hit up ALL the time. I tell them to get a job! It really ticks me off when somebody asks me for money. I even have people try and flag me down while i'm on the mower to ask...

Here, people come up to me at gas stations and ask for a job. Panhandling doesn't seem to be a real problem, here though.

Happens to me all the time...

Most of the time I inform the manager of the fuel station where I'm at.

I have seen a person arrested for this.

It's the same with salesmen. I have tons of them call me every day.

I wish I could have these guys arrested.

I usually tell them i don't own the business i just work for them and i would get fired if i gave him gas from the company credit card. They don't even try and talk me into it they just walk away.

When i used to flat out tell them no they would always stay and try to talk me into it making me feel like more of a D-bag for not helping them.

i once had a guy try and sell me steaks out of a refer van at the gas station. i would have bought one but he couldnt sell me just one.. i had to buy a whole box for 200 bucks.. i told him no and he kept on trying to sell me them telling me i could sell some to my friends and family... i told him i would buy one and he could go and sell the rest to other people who dont want a whole box... i eventually told him to get lost and reported him to the management of the gas station... i havnt seen them back there since

I just got my truck lettered up recently, and it's like a help wanted poster. I get people asking if I have any work.

I haven't had anyone asking for accounts. I think I would get into a fight if that happened. Only because I would laugh so much, that it would really make the other guy furious.

I love the "my car ran out of gas" routine. "oh yeah, was it a surprise? Did you happen to look at the big gauge right in front of your face?"

I don't help people.....wait no...actually I help lots of people, but I do it through the DAV.

LMAO I sold meat for a little while. Then I realized it was a huge scam and I worked with a bunch of criminals. I actually just recently saw a guy I sold meat with....He was one of the profiled dbags on the TV show Hard Time. His name was Aaron White. He was a hell of a salesman....apparently, not much of a bank robber.

I only have people beg for money on my way into the post office. Why the city lets 2-5 people hang out in front bothering people for money I dont understand.

I do have people constantly coming and asking for jobs.

He's probably huffing the fumes, then filling his '82 Coupe de Ville

It's because you live a socialist liberal state and plastic nancy would be all over you in a heartbeat for complaining.

Every time somebody asks me for something I say "would you look at this." Would you look at this.

That usually drives them away. If it doesn't I just look at them until they leave.

Haven't had to much trouble as far as someone trying to burn me, so I don't harbor the same resentment... yet.

Have had people ask for smokes- even though I don't smoke.

I would be less upset if someone asked for work. I mean sure it very well may be a scam, but at least it's more earnest than asking for gas or cash.

I had a worker up from valeho California (severe ghettos) to make a better environment for his kids and he was amazed at all the people on about every other corner begging, he said that DOES NOT EXIST where he's from because people either hustle or grab a gun. It only exists where bleeding heart liberals enable them by giving them money.

There are sooo many govt. assistance programs, that you gotta be pretty far gone to become absolutely homeless. I know there are some extenuating circumstances out there, but you can get a studio apt for $400-500 and your $800 car doesn't need $3000 worth of rims etc...

I don't mean to rant, I've even needed govt. help when I was younger, in my early 20's and worked at gas stations and pizza shops and lost my job. but I had a crappy $800/month job because of desisions that I made in school and in life that could have been avoided if Id've listened to my parents/teachers etc...

I had a guy say he's homeless and wanted to get his girlfreind some food and my father in law asked why he didn't go to the mission up the street and get both food and shelter? he said because they weren't married they wouldn't let them share a room and he couln't be away from his GF for that long.......SERIOUSLY??!! you chose your GF at night over your abillity to eat friggin live with it!!

The other day, for the first time, I saw a guy holding a sign that said, "looking for honest work." He was actually dressed in work clothes.

Before I started my own company this spring, I actually tried to get a job. At first, I was looking for something that paid close to what I made working at the mill before the downsize: about $20/hr.

LOL. That wasn't happening. I kept lowering my expectations and sending in applications, trying to play the numbers game. I finally decided to apply for anything, including minimum wage to start. When I didn't hear back from those jobs, I decided to gamble with starting my own business.

I'd always read that new businesses suffer an 85% failure rate in the first year, and was trying to avoid that. But in this economy, any job is a gamble.

Times are tough right now. More beggars than ever. More desperate people than ever.
