Hey guys,

I have a 48" scag freedom z rider with a 26hp briggs engine. We have one single click noise when turning the ignition key...anyone have any suggestions...here are some more details...

replaced solenoid
replaced battery
replaced voltage regulator
replaced stator
checked all safety switches
mower used to start by jumping it but now will not start at all

any help would be great, we have been dealing with this for months and now cant jump start it anymore so we might have to rent a mower for the weekend, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Check for blown fuse then power to the ignition switch "B" post, Then the switch post "S" when key is turned to start position.

If you can't move it, The carb could have flooded and filled a cylinder with fuel. This causes a liquid lock-up, take the spark plugs out and try again if it now moves but no fuel is in either cylinder, The valves need to be checked and adjusted. Valves worn out of adjustment causes the compression release not to function properly.

If it still doesn't move with the spark plugs out check the plastic starter gear, It could be worn and jammed into the flywheel gear.

You can test the starter by jumping right to the post on the side of it, If the gears aren't jammed and cylinders are free of fuel and valves are correct the starter should spin. If not repair/replace the starter.

Not for testing, Only if you want the engine to run if it does spin.
