I learned a lot from that last poll I posted, about the small mowers, so I am going to post another one!
This time, what are your main mowers? Like the biggest baddest mowers you got.
I use two 61 inch TurfTigers by SCAG, what do yall use?

Dang swampbeast you keep asking just one brand on your polls . we got four brands we been useing scag exmark toro and dixie chopper ztr's.

He he! Sorry Odin, I use only one brand for every type of equipment I own. For example, Large mowers (anything bigger than 26 inches) is SCAG. Small mowers are all Toro. 2-cycle equipment is all Echo. I do this to make it simpler for repairs, you dont have to familiarize yourself with a bunch of different brands and builds.

Thanks for replying all!

Why not, at minimum, everyone that desires to take a poll on LawnSite always include and give the sponsors of this site a dedicated spot for the poll data... being their presence helps allow us to increase our knowledge of the industry.

All mowers are Gravely. As Swampbeast pointed out it makes it easier for me on repairs not having to learn how each manufacture does things a little bit differently.

I must say, this is a great and valid point, and has my full backing. I vote to aprove the motion. All in favor? All opposed?

So if you had a Murry you would have all low end rezi?
Or do you save the Lazer Hp for those days?

Toro 580-D I put more hours on it than all the other equipment combined. (Including the truck).
I've worked my way up from a 12' batwing made by Alamo then a 15' Howard Price. Last summer I was able to buy a used Toro 580-D. I have two Toro 325-Ds that I use for trim work.
I'm working solo so the less time I spend trimming, the more money I earn.
I don't skip any trimming though. The customers will see me coming around the building on one pass with the 580, then the next time with a 3 hp sidewalk edger.:D

I'd never seen the 580-D, but you got my attention when you said, "worked my way up from a 12' ....", so I went a-looking, here's a link to a pic, etc. http://www.toro.com/golf/mower/rough/gm580/580.html
That looks like quite the mower. 16 feet, that's nice. Hey, you know, you could put a Flex-deck or three on there, and...... ;)

I now have 3 Lazers by Ex-mark 23 horse power Kohlers, 60" cuts, that i just purchased 2 weeks ago. Was using 3 61" Scags with 25 horse power Kohlers . I find that although I saved a little with the Ex-marks I should have gone up in the power to the 25's. Had good service out of the Scags for 3 Seasons over 2000 hours. Hope to get the same service out of the Ex-Marks.

LGF - never know quite how to read your posts.... I guess you were making a joke.......either I get a kick out of your comments.

To answer your question, my point was that with most of my accounts being high end residential ($400k and up homes), the Walker always is the BEST...Hands down!! I own and use exmark and toro, but they don't come close to the quality of cut or clean look which my Walker provides. I use the wb for slopes that my Walker or LZ HP can't handle, and I use the LZ HP for more open areas, usually on commercial properties.

As to your Murry question......if I had a Murry I probably wouldn't still be in business. But......come to think of it, all the murry's I see out there are on low end rezidential....so maybe you're right HA HA!!

Westbrook,

I'm with you. Most of my customers are high end rez, $300K and above. I just love my Walker for these properties. One pass and it's cut and clean.

I was asking about the G.D. Surfer type mowers here a while ago and was interested in them for space savings on my trailer. Well obviously the Walker is much longer than a Surfer, BUT the quality of cut is MUCH better. But the Walker is not the machine you want to use on big wide open areas that do not require bagging. This is where the ZTR's shine.

Sooooo, having said that, I think I'll have to get 2 new mowers for next year! Another Walker and then a Surfer type or another ZTR to get the big wide open areas done quicker. I'm going to have to set up two trailers, one for the Walkers for doing rezi and high visibliity commercial props, and one with the big ZTR's for the big open commercial and rezi properties. Sounds complicated but really it's not. Two different trailers and crews geared and specialized for two different types of properties.

OH, I wanted to say that in my experience there aren't too many slopes that the Walker cant handle, I find that I don't need a W/B on the trailer with the Walker. You must be doing some really hilly areas. I've been on the Walker on some slopes that had me SCARED, but the Walker handled them like a mountain goat. I was nervous because of the degree of the slope but the Walker was stable, I guess I just have to trust it and learn it's limits.
