Why would you need another??? I have been to a few and this one is by far the best. There is tons of great info on Lawnsite. The administrators do a great job keeping it going (like updating the server last week). You can do a search and find just about anything you are looking for. If for some reason you don't find what your looking for post on the forum and you'll get honest feedback. Lawnsite is a great tool for me and has helped me a great deal.

I would love to see a chat ROOM here on lawnsite. That could be a heck of a lot of fun, and make Lawnsite even MORE addicting. What do you think, Lawnsite?

There's been an OFFICIAL chat room on LS for over a year.

And MANY others conduct them on their own. Its a nightly thing.

You must have AOL IM to do them.

Gets kinda busy with 10-15 people chatting. Hate to see a LARGER quantity of people.

The link is under "other topics" in the forum list.

What about those of us that don't have, or want, anything aol on our computers? I guess we can't join in, eh?

crawdad,

AOL IM is harmless. When its OFF its OFF . When YOU choose to turn it ON, its ON .

I HATE AOL, feel the same way you do about it, but, I have to admit that the IM thing is good for chatting with friends and such.

Kinda cool checking up on people too! We NON AOL users get to log in/out whenever we want. Want to work online without everybody trying to chat? DONT LOG ON to the IM.

I was going to say something about AOL not getting good reception down in the hollar, but.... :D

Well, actually, aol doesn't get good reception down here in the holler. They tried to blame the phone lines. But, the other isp's work fine, without any of the problems that aol caused. On my new computer, I don't allow any aol programs. My Yahoo messenger works fine, and I keep it in "invisible" mode most of the time, so that I don't make "opening and closing door" sounds on my friends computers when I check my two mailboxes.

Crawdad,
I don't think you have to worry about running AOL IM. It's a very small program that should run, I think, on any computer with no problem.

Yeah, I'd be more worried about YaHOO Messenger then AOL IM.

Plus IM is much more popular. (and works for the Lawnsite Chats!)

Want to be totally stealthy? Create another handle! Log in annonomously.

I do UNDERSTAND the "BEEF" about AOL. Cant stand it. Really don't know how the millions of people that use it actually get by with it, but their IM program is great~!

Heck, my bud and I actually TALK (like on a telephone) through it. He's a "hunt-and-peck" typer, so it makes it easier for him to just speak into the microphone.

Yahoo is not even usable anymore. All you get is a bunch of porno pop-ups. You'd think an outfit like Yahoo would have done something about this by now.

Problem with YaHoo is that it is an advertisment based company, while AOL has MILLIONS of people PAYING $21.95/mo!

Thanks to all you AOL'ers for footing the bill for my FREE AOL IM service!

All we have is the porn advertisers and the 10x camera people to thank for the other bottleneck called YaHoo!

the only program i've ever used is AOL. why do you (crawdad i think) not like it? i was just wondering why some people are against AOL. maybe i need to look into something better? i admitt i hven't been too pleased with the service lately. i'ld like to know what else it out there. thanks

Well, a LOT of choices are out there.

From free dialup ISP's (Net Zero, etc)

To discount dialup ISP's (< $10/mo)

To good solid local dialup ISP's.

To DSL broadband.

To Cable Modem Broadband.

To Satellite Broadband.

The closer you live to a metropolitan area, I'd assume the greater your choices.

If your cable co. offers broadband, I'd suggest that first. If not, try your phone co's DSL (their prices are coming down to compete with cable)

The ONLY thing you'll NOT have with a NON-AOL ISP is actual CHAT ROOMS within AOL. You know the cheezy singles room, teen rooms, local rooms, etc. With IM you can still chat, but not in these AOL only rooms.

Plus, you get out of the AOL bandwidth bottleneck.

When I had aol, I just kept getting kicked off all the time. You'd be right in the middle of something, and this window would pop up and TELL you it's going to hang up in x amount of seconds. The thing was, is it DID! My computer would stick alot and freeze up, also. I ended up going with TIR (The Internet Ramp) which was an exclusive Michigan based co. (Recommended by Ekos Computers). They were then bought out One Main.com, which has SINCE been bought out by Earthlink. This is who I have now, and they are real good if I ever need assistance or anything. I would love to have satellite, but I just can't justify the cost.
