Here are a couple pix of a trick we use on our high HP sand dragsters,,as you know sand will kill an engine in a second so I decided to apply this extra level of protection to my mower. In the leaf season, as you know, our mowers are exposed to extremely high levels of dirt etc.....I may be a little paranoid but extra protection never hurt.
These Outerwears filter down to .005 micron and do not restrict airflow. Like I said we use them on 90+ HP 2 stroke sand dragsters so our little 20-25hp engines won't be restricted.
BTW: I got mine in matching"Exmark Red" :D
And if I find Exmark putting this on their mowers anytime soon, they better send me some free stuff at least!:)

That's an excellant idea TurfPro. Now if we can just figure out how to get one of those to fit over a Kawasaki 14 hp aircleaner housing we'd be set.

Richard,
What shape is the Kawi filter? If it's round,or square for that matter ,,,really any shape, they can probably make one.
It takes them about 7-10 days to make custom sizes(like this one).

The filter is egg shaped and fits inside the black housing right over the oil filter in this picture. As you can see there are 2 wing screws that pass through the housing and then through the filter.

maybe you can get a bag with a small hole in the part where it enters the engine and the wrap the filter in the bag:confused:

I'm sure they could make one that was open on both ends (with elastic to seal/secure it) so that the bolts would be a non-issue. Think of the standard round, open element "hot rod" style air filters.Something along these lines...........?? >>

Take a look at the purple one ,or the red one, in the picture.I'm sure something like that ,only in your shape would help.
Boy oh Boy!
Kawasaki engineers must have been having a bad day when they designed the 14hp filter! I HATE mine! Thank God I don't use it all that much.
When you DO go to clean the prewrap, or even remove the filter, you can almost guarantee your gonna drop some dirt....GUESS WHERE!!! Right down the carb throat!
You have to be real carefull if its real dirty!
DONT use a shopvac! You could possibly suck up gas fumes which would ignite if they come in contact with any spark your vac motor makes!
What the 14hp needs is an adapter to a 2" round opening then we could do a remote Donaldson mounting, like back between the motor and gas tank!

TLS,
Sounds kinda funky??!?? I have never seen a 14hp Kawi so I couldn't say,,,but with one of these you can at least cut down the number of times you have to "risk" taking your filter off. Strange deal............
