Is this thing worth a crap? Tanner on the Christmas Light University web site "school" was promoting it. I have heard it was crap, worthless and a piece of junk. He seemed to think it was the best thing since sliced butter! I dont know.

Any opinions or any other options on finding bad bulbs on a mini strand?

I think it is amazing. Like most, I also have the "buzz box." However, this will check the bulbs, fuses, continuity for the bulbs that lose a leg, as well as take the protective coating off the shunt. I ought one last season and loved it. I spent a week trying to find one for this season as last years walked. I bought two. It is just about the best $20 I have ever spent!!
