Hey Solo's??
Any of you guys keep a BACKUP backpack blower just in case your big bad one goes down??
Idea of my Redmax 7001 going down for whatever reason and going back to a sears craftsman scares the heck out of me, no matter what the delay would be especially this time of year..
Do you guys have a smaller, but still powerful backpack you use, or if your main backpack goes down, are you screwed until the dealer gets it fixed?
Thanks!
Gary

I have no backup right now. I just asked my dealer this week when they're having a sale on Echo products, so I can buy another PB-603. However I am looking at the ner PB-650. Just want to make sure the 650 does NOT have the new EPA regulated carb on it. If it does I'll get another PB-603.
I need a backup to put to use, in addition to my main. I was blowing leaves from a paved area into a grassy area the other day and my helper was just standing there

Easy solution. Let your helper blow while you stand there.
It is good to have a back up though.

Stihl is the backup. Been used recently when the pull cord screwed up on the redmax. It was a life saver that day.

I'm solo and my backup is just a hand held REDMAX. got it for around $220. maybe do a search on blowers. i know there was a thread the other day about backpacks vs hand helds. it was quite interesting. read up! :)

My old BR400 is the backup to my new BR420 Magnum. The old BR400 was getting cranky and hard to start so I put it out to pasture this year. I also bought a BG85 today.
I have an Echo handheld for a backup to my Echo PB-603. I will only use it if I absolutely have to, I'm too spoiled by the power of my backpack.LOL I try to have a backup to all my equiptment, you never know...

I wasn't sure if any of the solo's have 2 Redmax 7001's, 1 as a prime machine and 1 on standby.. Just in case you have a helper for that day OR in case the main one goes down..
I'll have to try to find out used.. That would be worth it.
Thanks,
Gary

Hey M&M,
Wouldn't you be beat if you were doing a leaf job and the backpack went down? I don't think handhelds cut it for a major leaf job anyway..

oh heck yes if the back pack went down on a leaf job id have to try and fix it or buy another back back! The small hand held i have wouldnt do much leaf blowing. But it will blow the crap out of some nice thin blades of grass on cement.(i think):D

We have back ups for the mowers but not the blowers. I know what brands of equipment I want so I have the different Dealers numbers handy so that if something breaks I can call, see who has it and the best price and run get it. My favorite Dealer is a 3 hour round trip so it might be a hassle but he will likely get the business.

Lets see i have helpers a few times at least one yr round.
Ive got two stihls br420 and a billygoat qb1004. I have had few problems with above machines but none that really took them out of service. I always got a rake for someone standing around though.

I have a back up blower I started with 5 years ago, Homelite back pack, not as powerful as my jd but will do in a pinch.

I have always carried a second backpack blower. I have an EB-6200 and a new EB-7000. Like any piece of power equipment, blowers can have problems too. I now have a helper, so I am planning to purchase a third blower (used) to keep in the shed as a spare. I do this with hedge trimmers and line trimmers also.

I think it's scary not to have a backup for every piece of equipment. I even made arrangements with a rental place near me and my wife's brother in case my truck is down. It seems to me to be cheap insurance.

I'd be more concerned about how you are going to get rid of the leaves from your jobsites right now rather than worrying about a spare backpack blower to move them. As per your other "trailer on trailer" thread.
I only have my Tanaka shredder vac that converts to a blower for a spare. My Redmax is two years old and trouble free so far. I know my time is coming for a breakdown though. I'll get a 7001 in Spring as I add more employess also.

Just buy another big one for a back up!!! I have 3 Shindaiwa eb630's. Not one has ever given me problems. My handhelds have given me more problems than the back packs.

Yes ,
main blower is Shindy EB630
backup is a Huskvarna 140d
Both are in working order, my wife uses the Husky but the Shindy can blow the Husky down the driveway.

I have a BR 400 that is 5 years old. Works great
I have a Echo PB 60 that runs perfect but the recoil is broken right now 4 years old
I have a Kawi 700 that is one year old. Even though I hate it, it runs well.
I also have a 9HP Honda Little Wonder. (I could have almost bought 2 8HP's for the price of the 9HP but trailer space is tight and the Honda 9's are bulletproof)
You can never have too much equipment if you plan to be in this biz several years from now. I have one full time employee in the fall so 2 BP's are essential.

As of now I have just one echo bp blower but I'm going to pick up a used echo pb-603and use mine for a backup. I really want a 650, but they are very expensive.
