View Full Version : Shindaiwa T261 bogs down/stalls out when throttle is engaged

My Shindaiwa T261 weed eater is bogging down when accelerated. Unit have a new carb, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug and the exhaust and fuel lines have been cleaned. Fresh 89 octane+2cycle(50:1) has been added as well. The unit have a compression of 150psi.
What else may cause the Shindaiwa T261 weed eater to bog when throttle is fully engaged?

i dont know the answer but i got a brand new echo 280 that does the same thing

For the Shindaiwa, did you clean the exhaust port by removing the muffler as well as the spark arrestor screen? The symptom's you describe are typical of exhaust blockage.

For the Echo 280, sounds like high speed jet needs adjusted. If it's new, take it back to dealer for adjustment. If you want to adjust yourself, do a search on "Echo carb adjustment"--you'll get needed info. on the process.

Cleaned fuel lines? Were they checked for any cracks or breaks? When this problem develops, I always remove the lines and pressure test. Look for extreme softness in the fuel lines as they sometimes get soft enough that they will collapse when fuel is called for.

Have you checked for any intake leaks? If the unit will idle, spray carb/choke cleaner around the intake area. If you get a change of rpms or the unit dies, it's possible that you have a gasket leak or possibly a crack in the isoblock. Over the last 20 years, I've found several cracked isoblocks, although most often the bogging occurs after the unit gets warm and the crack expands. If the carb retaining screws or nuts get loose and the carb is allowed to vibrate, the gaskets can deteriorate over time.

Yes, I cleaned the exhaust port by removing the muffler as well as the spark arrestor screen on the T261 Shindaiwa. That was the very 1st thing that I tried. I also tried to run the unit before re-installing the muffler, but I got the same results...........bogggg. I have also installed new carb, spark plug, fuel filter, air filter and fresh 89octane gas+2 cycle mix at a 50:1 ratio. This unit don't have many hours on it at all and have a compression of 150psi. There's plenty of life left in this unit.

If you have a new unit, take it to your dealer and let them solve the problem.

I sprayed carb cleaner around intake area and the rpms changed. Therefore, I guess there's a gasket leak or cracked "isoblock."

Question:
-Is an isoblock the same thing as an insulator block?

Certainly worth an inspection of the gaskets and isoblock(isolation block).

If the unit will run at higher than the usual idle speed, try the same procedure at the higher rpms.

If you're getting changing rpms, it's very likely you sucking air somewhere.

Yes, the T261 Shindaiwa is sucking air around carb. The gasket appears to be in good condition. Do a gasket sealer go on gasket? I haven't had this problem with other units.

I ordered gaskets and fuel lines. There were no visible cracks in insulator block. The parts will be here in two weeks. Hope this take care of the problem.

One other thing you may want to take a look at. Take a look at the juncture of the jug and crankcase. A leak there could also be a problem. Is there any accumulated oil/gas around the base of the jug where it joins the crankcase?

On echo I have seen that isolation block get a little warped which can be checked on flat surface. Lightly sand it if not flat. Gaskets will likely fix.
