Do any of you advertise for LawnSite.com on your trucks or trailers? Do you think this is a good idea? I bet the other LCO's in your area that don't know about it would give it a try. Just that much better for lawnsite. What are your thoughts on this? i wouldn't mind putting a little www.LawnSite.com sticker on my gate or back part of my truck. This could really do a lot for the sponsors too!! :D

Yea i'd put one on my trailer if LawnSite gave us each one or two. Course, I wouldn't pay for it but the sponsors might ;) :)

not to be a snob, but why would you want your competitors to have this resource? It may help the industry, but I dont think that will be the most visible result.
All the complaining we do about this customer and that customer, etc.!!!
If mass amounts of homeowners stumbled upon this site, things would sure change!

I feel the same as TLS..
Screw the other LCOs.. let them find it on thier own... like I did. :)
In my humble opinion.. whatever it may be worth.. I'd love to see lawnsite.com become a pay site. To keep out the unwanted.

Exactly MY feelings as well!
I do however mention it to some good guys (LCO's) at the local greasy spoon. Some don't even have computers!!!???
Oh well!

There is good reason for this! First, for the obvious, and that is customers that may end up here. They can use nany things discussed here as a "bargaining" tool. We are not in the bargainling business. Second of all, is other lco's. While it is beneficial to share information with other lco's, the main reason being is to keep the standard of service and pricing up, at this point, there are just WAY TOO MANY half fast lco's out there who really just DON'T care, and all THEY'll be doing is taking valuable information found here and compromising it for their own greed. You know who some (or many) services in our area are. I feel at this point, the more people we share this with, the worse it would be for us. Be very careful and selective about who you share this with, and you'll be much better off in and for your area. There are very few I have shared this with, and these are people I've known and/or are familiar with enough to trust. There are just too many scrubs out there to just flash it in public.:blob4:

That is a good idea. It would keep the riff-raff out. But then again, they would keep on using those big ztr's, leaving those eye crossing stripes and ruts in there customers yards. They would never acheive a professional status in the industry. So I guess it would be kind of a trade off thing.

i would gladly pay an annual fee for using Lawnsite...most any assocaition we belong to of much value, has an annual membership fee or "dues" of some sort...LS is more than a website....its more like an association of people helping each other and sharing information....and if a fee keeps some of the yahoos off the site, I'm all for it

after i made this post, i started really thinking about it. you're all right. man, if our customers read that post about "nicknames'' we would be in a world of hurt. i guess if it were a pay site, i'd pay. this site is like a college course in marketing and business. :p

I also spread the word before I thought about it. Now I keep my mouth shut. I don't want to kill a good thing but, a pay site might keep the flames down and professionalism up. Just my opinion.

I don't refer this site to anyone, I would be happy if this became a paysite. If it was'nt for this site I would have to say I probably would'nt be to the level I'm at right now. Thanks

Yo Capt Devo....addicted my be a more appropriate word for many of us...the comment above mentioned , without this site they would not be where they are today....I can take that one step more and honestly say that without this site I would not have taken the leap into our business......LS is a treasure and we need to do everything to keep it the great resource that it is.....frankly I still have to laugh at how open we all are here on this site and then we go the gas pumps and we look at each other like we're mortal enemies......I just laugh at it

hey guys, i wouldnt mind a bumper sticker or something. as far as paying i believe chucks thoughts are that it will always be free
This site will never be a paying site. The sponsors want as many people to see this site as possible including homeowners, new LCO and then existing LCO. I doubt if we pay for this site it will make up the difference the site owners earn from the sponsors.
There are alot of lurkers that come here to see what is the best mowers, etc. to buy according to LCO's.

Then that's the problem..
Why should all that is discussed here be open to the public? Why can't a section of this site be closed to LCOs only???

I can see that sponsers want to have exposure, but exactly who are most of the advertisers???? They are companies targeting the commercial lawn care professional, not homeowners. We really should be able to have a "sanctioned" place where we can talk, argue, share, just kick back and relax, that is not in direct view of the consumer. This is a good place to share ideas, have a sounding board, and a place to learn, and it should be kept sheilded from the homeower/client. Our tricks, methods, and banter about our business, problems, and experiences... should not be advertised to the general public.

I made this same point a month or 2 ago and it seemed then that most of the response was something like "get over it", most homeowners have better things to do than read our posts", yahda yahda yahda....I have always had nothing but good things to say about this site....but homeowners viewing it is completly uncalled for....Mr Sponsor sure as heck is not selling many mowers to Harry The Homeowner....we need to remember how ez it is to find this site...lets say Harry wants a big cleanup job done...hes never used an LCO...has no idea of what it might cost...so he turns on his'puter and starts a google search on 'lawn' and stumbles onto lawnsite...and there he sees prices all over the place, techniques about as varied, and thinks he now knows our "secrets"...then he calls one of us and asks for an estimate and proceeds to tell us "I know for a fact some guys would charge a third of what you are asking"...and its downhill from there...if Harry needs a website he's got the following,
Scotts
Rebeccas Garden.com
various state unniversities
Toro and the other homebrand sites
and whatever else he stumbles onto in his search....I stand by my opinion that homeowners should not be viewing our posts

Any body that doesn't think that a ton of H Os do not look at this site need to click on "who's online" some time and look at all the guests browsing. Granted Stoner may be one of them. :D

KLM makes a good point. there should be a forum reserved for only LCO's. you should have to register, just like you do at the clerks office, then you will be given a 'code' or 'password' to enter that section of lawnsite. this way we can speak our minds on whatever topics we wish. the homeowners still benefit from the other forums, thus do the sponsors. win win situation. :p
