Hello all- my ZT1640 loses power to the right transaxle after about 20 minutes of mowing and then I have to push the dump rod to get it to re-engage after which it will run sporadically. Was told that the transaxle needed replaced (for $1000). The mower ran fine until the owner let it set for a couple of years and it has only 100 hours on it. Any options?

Are you sure you got the dump rods in the correct position? They are intended to disengage the hydro pressue so you push the mower. I guess you know that. The tranaxle can be repaired.

Pretty sure they haven't been adjusted incorrectly. When you say the transaxle can be repaired do you mean replaced or rebuilt?

Local repair shop wants $1000 to replace just the right side transaxle.....Is there any way to do this cheaper and is it worth the money???

I had a zt1540 from 2004. Either izt or ezt transaxles. One side went out at 250 hr other side at 300hrs. I replaced both on my own, the 2nd one in a customers yard. Pretty easy to replace with a floor jack, jack stands, and normal wrenches around the garage. Takes about an hr per side taking your time. I don't think gravely has changed the design much on those over the years. I think they were about $550 just for the transaxle. I had the actual axle snap just inside the cases.
