Who here would leave there self employed "bliss" and go back to working for the man for $40,000 salary plus car with benefits???
Doing the same grunt work etc as now but profits going to the man.
Not me. Things would have to get REALLY BAD for me to EVER go back to working for the "man".

I've only been in business for about 2 years now, and I tell ya, I dont think I could go back to working for the man either.
I like the hours, I like the work, I like the money, I like it.

No way. Stay self employed. You can make a lot more then that.
Have your freedom and creative life.

no.
but $60, 000 with car, benifits, pension, if the position had little stress, i'd have to sit and think about it.

Uhh, I left my job making more than that to start this business. The answer is quite simple. Besides, as much as a money pig I am, it wasn't really the money that made me start my own business. It's being in charge and in control that made me do this. The profits will eventually come. :)

I am not saying $40,000 is nothing but I would take a lot more then that but I could be convinced. This might even be easy depending on how rainy the day is.

backstabbing....useless meetings...unpaid overtime....layoffs. Now that I am out of the environment, I will not go back. The highest amount I ever made was 42,000 in the corporate world and that came with years of loyalty and training and a degree only to get laid off. I look back and laugh at it now, I make more in the growing season than I did all year in the corporate world and also love what I am doing.

Remeber that the 40k is net. Netting 40k in this business is not that easy. I work for the man because the money and benefits are great and still have my lawn care business on the side and have someone work for me. Granted my business only grosses around 45k and I usually net around 15k it is extra money for around 300hrs per year actual labor. But if I could comfortably net what I do for the man I would quit asap. But I would have to factor in 4 weeks paid vacation, matching 401k, and medical benefits which add up quick. It is a tough call sometimes.

No friggin way...why would I take a cut in pay?
like somebody said, its just not all about the money. I love 10 weeks off in winter, when i worked for 'the man' best i ever got was 4 weeks vaca and 5 sick days per year.
i like being the final decision maker
i like implementing my own ideas (even the ones that don't work so good)
i like the freedom of setting my own schedule
oh, yeah, about my opening statement that its not all about the money, hehehe, well, it sure does help!

BOO HOO,
I am right where you are talking about.. I right now work for the other man. I make that salary and have the truck to drive. I really only work hard for about 5 months out of the year. The rest of the year is slow and set on my a$$ets and draw a check. The stress would be no different than than working for yourself. I can see the benefits of both. That is the main reason for me holding on to the JOB. This coming year will be my last for working for the MAN. This time next year I will get things in order to go full-time. Taking this upcoming year to pay off debts....
Sorry to make a long answer to your question. This for some is a very hard decision to make... the some I am talking about is ME!!!!

I just applied for a government job, and am applying for a job as a police officer in my city. If I get either, the LC biz will become a side thing.
There are pluses and minuses to any job. I like what I do, but I'm sick of having to make twice as much money as other people to get approved for a loan because I'm self employed.

I can get a job at my friend's office working a regular 40-60 hour week making $5-30K per month (he's made ~20K so far each of his first 6 months). And I thought about it pretty damn hard the other night. But then you pay taxes and it's only half that. Then I gotta wake up every day at 6:30 and put a suit and tie on and be away from my family ~10 hours each day, etc.
I just finally concluded it wasn't worth it to me. I already make good $ each month. I get to travel, do fun things, have cool toys, etc. and I get to spend much of each day at home with my family working out of my home office. I love it. Money can't replace that.

It's not aways about money. 25 years ago I drove truck and had a solo lawn service. I hurt my knee at trucking job and to get compension had to sell lawn buss. After 15yrs of going to work at 6:30 and getting home at 9 or 10 (befor the kids got up and after they went to bed) I quit trucking job to run auto buss. that I was a partner in. I have 2 girls in college. From the time they were 8 and 10 I have gone to almost every sporting event or school function they had. NOT possible when working for the man.
