Insurance is a must for having any kind of business. The minimum insurance you should carry is a 1,000,000 policy which every company will require. Once you start working for service management or larger companies they will require 2,000,000 policies and up such as umbrella policies. I just got done working with a company last week who wanted a 4,000,000 umbrella policy for additional insurance. These issues make it hard for the small solo guy to keep work because insurance requirements are getting so important to people and companies. The common insurance limit to start out when I started a lawn care business in the St. Cloud, MN area was 1,000,000.
