I take care of alot of commercial property in Western NC.
This year I have three separate properties develop what looks like a fertilizer line. These lines are large semi circle patterns that vary from 25' to one over 120'

No one has been on the turf. And I have not fertilzed since spring.

I can send pictures if needed.

Lately, the oldest line is killing the grass just inside the dark line.

What is this? I have never encountered this.

Any help?

Sounds like perfect description of fairy ring. Send a sample to your state diagnostic lab before you jump to conclusions.

I would agree with GroundKprs statement. Most likely a fungus or disease problem. Check with your local co-op or your local landscape chemical supply house. Before you do anything with chemicals, check to see if you need an applicator's permit first.

Fairy Ring. Soil-borne disease.

No chemical controls for this disease.

It affects the soil in that it releases nitrogen in the soil and also makes the soil unable to absorb water-- resulting in the dark green color.

If it has a few small mushrooms along the dark green line or a small line of dead grass next to it, it is for sure fairy ring. Probably still is even if those other 2 symtoms aren't there.

What to do?

The manuals tell you to dig out the soil on 6" each side of the ring and 6" down, replace with good soil and seed. Nobody does that.

Real world: Fertilize to blend in color.
