View Full Version : Would i have to change rims if i chose these wider tires?

My mower needs new tires. I have 16x6.50-8 on there at the moment. I was wondering if the rim would take a 16x7.50 tire? I dont really want to change the rims but i think it would be great if i could get the wider ones to fit. I figure it would give me better traction and less rutting. thanks

They will fit without a problem. Just make sure the tire isn't going to rub anything once you have it mounted and bolted to the mower. You might have to run less air pressure as well but they will mount up fine on the wheels.

i was researching about bigger ATV tires, and the rule of thumb on those type of tires is that you can go 1" witer and 1" taller without getting bigger rims.

As long as you have the right tools, you shouldn't have any problems changing them. A little soapy water goes a long way.

Ok. Any special tools needed? Have a very good selection just not one of them big tire machines that pops the tire on and off the rim.

2 bigger screwdrivers and a 5lb hammer to break the bead.

I replaced 7" tires with 10" tires on a Gravely 34Z. They did fit on the old rims. So it is worth a try.
I use tire irons and soapy water to swap out tires. Get ready for a battle.
