As stated before someone said lay out all the equipment on the garage floor or drive way and measure how much space it takes up. Then you know how much space you'll need.
Going from a 5x8 trailer to a 6-7x12 trailer can be a trailer that ways about 300 more. So depending on the weight off your equipment I think your ranger will do ok and get much better gas mileage.

Lay everything out and figure out what size you ned, then go bigger. Over the years you will change equipment and need a bigger trailer. I started out with a 6.5X12 if i had it all to do over again I would have started with a 6.5X16

I would get a dove tail. I'd go with a 77"x12 PJ. I don't think you can get a side gate on a 12' but could be wrong.

Get a trailer with a drop axle or longer ramp gate. If you are running a single axle you could also have your trailer hitch up higher to drop the rear of the trailer, just don't so that with a multi axle trailer.

the trailer is setting level with the truck to. and with a6x12 looks like i have 24inch of room in back and 12inch on one side so should i look at a 7x12 with a side gate or no gate? or a 6x14 with no side gate just a rear gate ?

I would look at 16 foot one vs a 12 foot. And if you want enclosed I would say 18 footer. Plus the enclosed trailer is a nice place to keep all your stuff in. No loading or unload every day.
