View Full Version : Hosta in Florida

I was curious if any one had any info on how hosta would do in south west Florida. It was just about dormant when I brought it down from MI. I potted it up about a month ago. It has started to emerge and I'm sure it will do pretty well through the winter since it rarely frosts here. I guess what I'm really asking is if it will make it through the heat of the summer. It will defiantly be in the shade. I know I can just wait and see, but I'm really anxious to know. Any info would be appreciated.

It does great here in N. Alabama as long as it's in the shade. I'm sure it can't get much hotter down there. We have suppliers here who have several different varieties. They are very hardy plants. We've split large ones into 4-5 differents plants in mid-summer and transplanted them with no trouble as long as they are in shade and are water well for a couple of weeks.
Forgot to mention that we cut it back in the early spring just like lirope.
