View Full Version : Amps dropping when using dump

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra one ton dump. Was going thru it to get ready for the season and replaced the battery, as it looks old and some acid was coming out the top. I noticed the amps drop a bit when hoisting the dump body. Should this happen, or is this an alternator issue? Any help is appreciated

theres lots of current draw on an electric over hydraulic powerpac , typically the motor is relatively the same or even identical to a starter ,so its normal .

I show a voltage drop when operating my dump insert also. The reason is simple- the pump motor draws more amps than the alternator puts out. Since operating a dump is a short term draw, it's not a problem.

I would like to add that you can help out your electrical systems by running large enough cable especially on long runs ,and making sure the connections are clean and sound .
