View Full Version : Protecting Hedges from Ivy?

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a property in LI NY that was completely overgrown with English Ivy and brush. I've been working hard to remove it and am starting to grow a perimeter hedge with privet and other evergreens. My concern is that my neighbors properties that I border are still infested with Ivy and I do not want their Ivy to destroy my hedge. I've been using thick layers of wood chips as mulch to protect areas of my property where I had removed the Ivy. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can protect a hedge?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Be sure you can get around on the far side of your hedge and maintain it... The ivy is likely going to start spreading through the nice mulch, which they love, and pop out from everywhere...
I wouldn't be so quick to mulch... if you put your hedge right on the nproperty line you'll have no control over what's happening on the other side...
