I mostly handle properties in the 12,000-15,000 sq foot range. Wondering what the biggest mower you guys run on same sized properties. I have some larger commercial accounts also, but more concerned with the smaller stuff. Right now I'm running 52" Standers, but just thinking about the biggest machine I can get with my next purchase?

Do you have places where your 52" cannot get? I've owned from 54, 60 & 72". I would stick with your 52". In general the bigger the deck the more scalping & etc. I currently run a 54 & 60. My next one will probably be a 48 or 52. To me it is worth it to be able to get into small places and avoid more hand trimming than the time you might save with a wider mower in the open spaces. I don't think a wider deck would save you any time with the size yards you are mowing.

I'd look into a wam or batwing mower. In and out in one pass. Bamm you're done.
I use a 61in deck and have no problem on a 1/4 acre lot. It depends on the properties you're cutting. I think you could use a 60 and gain a little bit of time cutting.

I would say 48 or 52.

Of course I have a couple folks in very nice houses with these 1/3 acre lots that demand walkbehinds. Might want to think about that, not everyone wants a Z burning ruts in their lawn.

The smallest property I do is 7,200 if I remember correct. I use a 42" and never need to touch my 20" pusher because the 42" fits every where.

My largest property is 18,000 sf. A 60" would fit on all of them except one. And using a 60" will fit in every where so it will not increase the need to use the small mower or line trimmer.

Thing is gates. A 52" is not going to get through the old small 36" gates.

I don't need to replace my 42" though when the time comes gate size might keep me from getting a 60". Most new fences are being built with 5' gates. A 60" mower is wider then 60" so it will not fit through the 5' gates.

So I see myself maybe going up to a 54".

Then again if my 20" was to need replacing before the 42" I would replace the 20" with a 34" so I can get past the small gates.

There is no point of having a 48" 54" or a 60" mower to gain productivity when you will lose all that time doing a back yard with a 20".

Being most gates installed are now 5'. Would it be better to do the front and back with a 54", or the front with a 60" and the back with a 34" because most smaller gates will eventually be phased out?

Again you have to consider access. How many yards where you mow have 36" gates vs 48" gates vs 60" gates.

Also some areas almost every home has a fence, 50/50, almost every home has no fence.

So what is in your town?

You know your area.

Are there a lot of 1+ acre lawns where you live?

Again you know your area.

I put my 60" Dixie on everything it will go on. I do carry a 21" and a 36" but those are only used where the 60" won't go and it's not much.

X2. I have a 66", 60," 36", and 21". I use the 60 everywhere. My 36" and 21" hardly come off the trailer unless it's a walk on walk off terrace, or a small gate. As I pic up new accounts I tend to move away from these properties unless the monies are just too good to turn down. If there is a small space I can't get, it's usually so small that i may be able to hit it with the string trimmer.

My 52 fits just about everywhere. Just wondering if the 60 is too much, gonna give it some thought

No one else has customers specifically ask for walk behind mowers only?
