I'd use tall red fescue.

where you at in KS? i have tried "defiance" because it was popular around here, same seed as the sod farm used so i thought it would be very tolerant...i was wrong though, my lawn was fried last year...given it was a freakishly hot and dry summer...i'm still going to give it a second shot, it really is a good looking fescue...and i agree, a red fescue seems to be the best

drought resistant means that it will tolerate some lack of moisture, not do without any moisture. we use fescue grasses in areas that get 100 plus on a daily basis. don't water and your lawn frie,. no question.
drought resistant only means that it will tolerate some lack of moisture. Grass still needs some water.

I've always used Gard'n Wise Premium Fescue Blend here in Wichita. It used to be referred to as "Kansas premium fescue blend" I've had better luck with it than any straight variety like Kentucky 31. It changes slightly every year based on the research at Kansas State.
