i just got off the phone with my dealer. the 36'' hyrdo fixed deck is 6,000 and the 36'' floating deck is 4400. whats up with that? i suspect its because the prov has the different steering and they want them gone. im not real happy with either of these choices......

on a side note the 36'' vride is 6500 (only 500 more than a fixed deck walk behind)...seriously whats the deal here. i paid only 7000 for my 52'' vride brand new and thats not even in the same catagory of a 36'' fixed deck. so what gives with this pricing..i wanted to buy new i might have to look elsewhere than scag

Our distributor is running specials on what stock they have left. My rep said they demo'd the $hit out of them and some guys liked the controls but most didn't. I think they are cutting their losses and dumping whatever inventory is left.

The 2 dealers I have close, which are both about 30 min away from me, have the 48 in fixed deck for $5200 and $5300. Its crazy how different locations can have such different prices. On another note, the pro v, is extremely low here. The 48 is $4499 and the 52 is $4599. Down here is Tennessee all we pretty much have is hills. The dealers say no one likes the pro v because you can't control it near as well on a hill.

I paid $5860 plus tax for my 36" v-ride, but that was with the promo pricing they have going on till the end of March. All v-rides are supposed to be up to 20% off through March 31st.

http://www.scag.com/2012_scag_spring_promos.html

I agree with you, though, that their pricing doesn't make a lot of sense. For such a small difference in price, I would have gone with the 52" myself on the v-ride if I could have- I had to have the smaller size to get through some narrow gates we have here.

yea there is no way i can justify 6 grand on a fixed deck 36'' hydro scag walk behind. and ive also read alot of guys not thrilled with the Pro-v controls so im not really feelin that either. i went poking around today while out working and saw a cub cadet 33'' and a toro 30'' time master but they were both like beefy home-owner mowers. i called my one scag dealer today and they have a trade in 36'' belt drive fixed deck for $800 but they got it from a company i used to work at so i know how beat that mower has gotta be. they also have some new gravely and some toro trade ins but i gotta go there and see. im just real dissapointed in my scag 36'' walk behind options right now. i havent really considered a new belt drive walk behind but i may have to if i wana stay scag.

I bought the pro v 36 and so far I like it. Before I bought it I talked to the guys that use them on a mega church and they loved theirs. The place is a show case.

thanks for the comment. but affording the mower is not the issue here. its about being happy with what im paying for. i know scag is unloading the pro-v by talking to dealers all day. and i think the pricing of it makes it obvious. if the pro-v had pistol grips and a 6k price tag id buy it and move on. because ideally id like hydro + floating deck. but the controls are a concern of mine at the moment. and i dont think 6k for a fixed deck 36'' is my money best spent. but doesnt mean i cant afford it.

on a side note. another dealer just qouted 5600 for a 36' vride..

Then why go on here and complain about the price? It isn't news that they have a new w/b in the works replacing the pro v. They are not known to be a low dollar brand.

I'm looking at getting a 36" Pro-V myself, but the controls make me a little leary, and I can't find alot of reviews on them.

You have to try the pro-v controls. I had the chance to give one a try a couple weeks ago. It's like Cadillac power steering, I was able to operate the pro-v with one hand. I was impressed! The only down fall is you can't lift the deck while mowing.

$5600 was the price I was expecting to pay for the 36" v-ride. I heard a lot of guys got it for that price and a few even a bit lower. My dealer wouldn't come down a penny more, though. :( The v-rides are a better value than the pro-v right now in my opinion. I honestly don't love Scag's prices either and I have done my own share of venting, but I ended up getting it anyways because I didn't find what I was wanting used, so I went ahead and bit the bullet on a new one while they were offering the promo. If you aren't happy with the price for what you are getting on the pro-v, I would definitely check around and see if there is something else you can find that you feel is a good value and fit for you with a different brand. If you don't find what you are looking for, you can always come back to Scag later. I was considering Exmark, too, but ended up coming back to Scag.

Rumor has it that the new V-Rides will have flip up platforms that will allow you to use it as a hydro walk behind also, if the weight isn't an issue for you, I think that's a no brainier, especially with the promos they are running on them right now.

dj, i think i made my point clear already and dont really want to get into a pissing match here. This is not about not being able to afford a mower. If thats how your perceiving this thread then thats fine but im not going to argue about it with you. I think everybody else gets my point though and what it is im looking for out of my investment.

AmazingLawns, the price of the pro-v is great IMO. Its just the controls that got me wondering. If it was pistol grips I would have bought it already and not thought twice about it. But it still may be a good buy and Id be interested to hear what more guys have to say about them. Either way if I go scag I need to make a decision by the end of the month to get in on the promo deal.

The 36'' vride is looking better and better. they got one at my dealer im going to test ride tomorrow although its already been sold. but they said i can bomb around in the lot with it and if i like it they will order me up one and ill have it in a week.

The vride has always had a flip up deck unless you mean more of it would flip up? I actually used my 52'' vride one day as a walk behind. I got a flat in back and with my weight on it i had to step off to be able to still mow with it without butchering the lawn. I would have fixed the tire but i was far out from anwhere to get a repair and it was the end of my day, so I made due. It was definately doable to use as a walk behind, but very awkward and wouldnt want to do it again.

another dealer called me today and gave me some pricing on the gravelys. $5199 for a 36'' hydro PRO WALK and 3200 for a 36'' fixed deck with 4 pins to adjust the deck.

I'll probably end up getting another v-ride at this point. but we'll see.

Very knew to the bus but I couldn't help but post on this one. I went though the same thing these last couple of months between 36 prov 36 standon and the crazy pricing. My dealer didn't want to give alot of the promotion prices or get me a demo. So I went out of my way to get a demo of the 36 vride. Let me say it was my first stander and I didn't really like the 36in model. The tires a way to small lots of tire spin. The motor was great though. He offered the demo to me for 5700 plus tax but I didn't take it. So I thought I would go with the pro v but heard mixed things on the steering of it. Almost decided to go with the prov till I found a demoed 48 vride and a new 36 sfw another state away. The vride had 10hr I paid 5700 out the door and 2400 out the door for the sfw. The 48 is sooo much nicer than the 36. All under warranty. Just my 2cents

im heading to a dealer shortly. i cant seem to make my mind up yet so i'll see what they have to show me and maybe that will help. i was mentally set on the 36'' vride but im doubting it once again. not cause i think its a bad mower but maybe a WB is better for where im going to be using it. I was told yesterday alot of guy are running the freedom WB. they have one there i can see for myself what its all about. im really trying to stick with scag here as i plan to eventually have an all scag mega fleet lol

I think the 36" vride is a decent mower but to heavy for my applications. 36" to me is just for a gated yard or small tight stuff that a 48" or 61" does not fit. So for me the 36" does alot of turning/pivots that weight causes issues with. I'm sure the 36" vride has it's place if it's a persons main mower or for certain operations but not for me. Just my input on the deal.

The 36 SFW is a decent w/b if it's used a couple times a day or week.

i agree dj and for this reason i think i am no longer going to buy the 36 vride. its a great mower but probably better if i stick to my initial plan of a WB. I went to the dealer today and they had the freedom WB at their old locaton and will bring it up for me to see monday. I also asked if they could bring me the 36'' with kawasaki motor and advantage deck. Im thinking thats the one im going to buy. im also going to grab an fc90 edger and another blower while im there.

I went to the dealer this morning planning to pop on a 36'' gravely belt drive walk behind. they had it in stock and it was a nice mower with 4 pin deck adjustability. I really wanted hydro and by the time you get a 36'' hydro the gravely was 5200 + tax and scag was 6000 + tax (not the pro v). so I went and looked at their 36'' vride and after a little head scratching i just bought that instead. I know its pros and cons but i will see for myself and I think for what im using it for its going to be just what the doctor ordered. I also picked up an FC-90 edger while I was there. Had to order the edger and they want to do a 30 some odd point inspection before I take the vride. they check it all over again, adjust the deck, check this that and the other thing. so im taking delivery of that at the end of the month as they have lots of big orders to fill and im in no real hurry. ill post pics when i get it. worst case scenerio if its not what i want its still a nice zippy backup mower and i'll just buy a 36'' walkbehind as well. In the end i'll have lots more mowers to add to the fleet so for the price of 5600 + tax I figured why not. it'll look nice with my 52'' vride.

Thats a good price, I got quoted $6500 and $6800 plus tax from two scag dealers near me on the 36". Not going to buy it for that. Your price would be doable.

Took the Scag fleet bid info into the dealer and sales know nothing about it, but owner did. So I ended up ordering the Vride 36" for 5520 + tax, and the 0% for 48. Only thing that grieved me is that the new foldup walker models are not available yet. Stated it would be summer before I would be able to get one. No big deal, not sure I would use that feature. Can't wait to get it.

They used to make a pretty nice floating deck swz-adjustable deck with pistol grips....we have one...36 inch--that mower is a tank and is still going 12 years later, albeit a new motor-I cannot understand why they got rid of that mower-got a new v-ride 48...pretty nice and not too expensive-not the same as a walkbehind though-
