just bought this mower and was curious as to the company who makes it. I was told it was ExMark but I havent seen a green Exmark before. It looks very similar to a Bob-Cat but I cant find and that look as boxy as this one. Any ideas of Brand or age ?

No clue. They all looked alike back in the day. And a lot of the parts were interchangeable. The paint color looks like a Bunton.

Maybe lesco or bob-cat.

You aren't kidding when you said they all looked alike back in the day...my god.

I looked at some Lesco's, very similar but the Buntons have the open spindle deals on the cover so I think thats what it may be.

I picked it up for $300.00 to mow my 2 acres. It was either a Box store push mower or this...

Id rather be pulled around my yard than pushing something through it..lol. It has a newer 10 hp Tecumseh and no Number tags anywhere on the body of the mower. Its a beast

thanks for the replies
Eric

Can you get a few more angles of it and maybe higher resolution? Might be a Bobcat. Some of theirs had those single sided front wheel spindles like that.

One thing to really look at is that deck cover with those raised openings for the spindles. You dont see that often. If they are open its usually just a hole like the Bunton picture in this thread. Those raised things usually had caps on them for a little more protection.

I dont think its an exmark or a lesco. I dont think lesco made any mowers that would look like that. Pretty close to a bunton aside from the handle bars and deck cover. The gearbox and handle bar design makes me think bobcat.

It could also just be pieced together from different brands and painted green.

i bet it is an exmark repainted green some time ago.

The body of the deck resembles the Exmark Metro

I think we have a winner... !

Winner? I don't think so...

Notice the angles on the front side of the deck. Buntons and Goodalls did not have this angle on the front of the deck.

Right now I would say it might be an old Exmark or Encore repainted. Old Exmarks did use knobby tires on the front.

Did old Bobcat have those angles on their deck?

I'm with david......

looks like an exmark painted green. that Goodall doesn't have the angles on the deck......

Anybody have pics of an old F.D. Kees (before various mergers)?

AiricR

Yeah the deck angles arent right....I just found some pics of a Redhawk walk behind that looks similar and has the stacks above the spindles....I dunno...Exmark has the angles on the deck...

looks like a mid 80's exmark painted green without the shields around the belts.

That second mower above is not an Exmark. It is a F.D. Kees with an Exmark decal.

That also means we can rule out F.D. Kees as the mower in question.

davidcalhoun

I also believe we can rule out both the BobCat and Encore mowers based of the fronts of those mowers. The BobCat angles to the center in the front. The Encore has an "offset" look to it.

My educated guess is that it is a green painted Exmark.

It's an 80's exmark that someone changed the front casters and arms on.

AiricR
03-11-2012, 11:34 PM
Never even thought it could be an Exmark...Thats crazy... But it does match. I would love to just order a set of belts so I would have them here when I wanted to replace them instead of tearing it all down and hunting belts...This thing is a monster just has problems climbing a small hill in the back..Drive Belt slipping etc...

why do you say that? exmark used those single sided casters in the 80's. and thats early 80's with the old variable speed tranny

it is not a metro it is pre metro. i just cant think of the name lol. i had an older exmark like that and i know when i ordered a belt for a metro it was the wrong size and i had to take to dealer for him to see mower in person to get me the right size.

Buyers Gold, the original Chinese mower that later became a whole ton of mowers including the Red Hawk, dates from 1997.

omg...lol...so its on the truck and off to the dealer to say any Idea wtf this is...lol...I have a mutt...Im really enjoying this mower Its been a workhorse..But my whole idea of being pulled rather than pushing something just got blown out the window today...Im wore out...Need Sulky !

davidcalhoun

Richard, this mower is older than 1997. Looks like a mid 1980's.

AiricR, I would research whether the transmission on that older mower is built heavy enough to take the additional strain that a sulky would add.

This 36" deck is not a BobCat. Do a google image search and you'll see how the older BobCat decks were flat across the front. And the newer BobCat decks comes to a slight point in the very center.
