ON this Briggs OHV, It has a Nikki Carburetor. I have cleaned it throughly several times and when running it Sputters and Coughs. It is the carby for sure. I have gapped the valves and I have replaced the timing key. Everything checks out but when I reeve up the engine it sputters alot.

Any idea / Comments ?

Please respond.

Thanks.

That carb is a piece of crap--never the less, the problem could be with the brass main jet which is housed at the bottom of the plastic fuel transfer assembly. It is held there by means of a very small o-ring. If have found several loose in the fuel transfer and I have also found the fuel transfer warped. If you lay the top of the fuel transfer assembly on a flat surface you will be able to determine if it is warped. The main jet with o-ring is available from Briggs.

In most cases, I have replaced the fuel transfer assembly, main jet and the spider web type gasket.

It's possible that if you removed the fuel transfer assembly the main jet may have fallen out in the process.

You can go to Briggs website and find the carb parts breakdown. When you get to the proper page and are asked to enter the model, you will do so by entering 31c707-0230-e1.
