View Full Version : Options on walk behind replacement

I am in a bit of a pickle. I have an exmark 36" metro whose Kohler engine just hit the grave today (4 year old engine on 5 y.o machine. Mowing/cleanups for me starts Monday (30sh residential houses, keeping my college debt minimal! ) and I am already behind with this nice weather/out of town last weekend.

My options that I can think of would be (while searching for a new engine):
Renting a mower (Unfortunately don't know if any available until Monday at 7:30
Craigslist (Cub Cadet G1436 for $1100 - but all I read about Cub Cadets is poor)
There was also a Gravely walk behind, 13 h honda engine for $750
New mower (brand/model suggestions?)

Question: What do you guys suggest? I figure the engine will cost $800sh, and I could possibly sell one back once I get the exmark replaced. Granted, I could just hold onto it so this doesn't happen again

If you can afford it, buy an inexpensive machine to use for now and have as backup later. The Gravely for $750 sounds fair. You should be able to buy a replacement 15hp for about 550ish. Good luck
