I have a sweet system (search) on my 14' trailer but I need something for my 18.
I saw this today at Forsyth Mower in WS.
It works just like the one on my 14' trailer, 1 finger or just your toe will bring it back up.

That looks interesting.
Not real sure how it works. Is the spring pre-loaded?

Ya the ramps won't fly up and hit you in the face will they?

No, I lifted that ramp with my foot.
It came up easily to about 45 degrees and stopped. I then just pushed it to the upright position.
The spring has almost no tension on it at full vertical.

Anyone know of a source for those springs?

I think I found springs that would work at mcmaster.com.
I may use this idea in the future.

I'm having someone make that for my bigger 18' trailer.
We're both into bikes and have hundreds between us both.
We're thinking motorcycle shock springs may work. Of course it will probably be at least 2 on each unit.
We'll see. It all depends on the weight of the gate and my gate is not as heavy as the one in the picture.
btw-It's a custom truck body made in Charlotte.
Forsythe Mower uses it at their dealership.
I'm telling you, it's as good as the custom trailer I had made back in 2006 and the leaf spring setup on that trailer is awesome.
This is a really simple idea that doesn't need specific geometry to work right like my other trailer.
