View Full Version : Lazer Z wheel motor or pump?

New to the forum, searched for weeks but have not come up with a solution. I'm new to a Lazer, rest of my fleet is tracers. The right wheel works occassionally. Normally going straight forward or backward, not a problem. Come to the end of the run, the wheel will not go in reverse when I pull the stick back. If I move the stick forward 20%, it seems to "catch" and the machine moves forward, then reverse will work.
Going down a hill, the same right wheel doesn't seem to have resistence.

I have no oil leaks, no strange noises, the hydro oil is not murcky so I don't believe I have air in any of the lines. Doesn't matter if it is warm or cold, blades on or blades off. I've greased the belt tensioner for the pumps.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do next? Should I swap wheel motors? Pumps? I don't want shavings messing something up by waiting too long to fix or fixing the wrong thing.

Anything on the pump besides the relief I should check?

I really dislike paying my dealer for their work. I could probably buy a pump and wheel motor cheaper than paying the dealer to diagnose just one of the two.

My scag was doing about the same thing just not as bad. When you went to change direction from forward to reverse the wheel would take about 1-2 seconds then it would grab and start moving. My dealer replace the wheel motor under warranty.

Did you resolve the wheel motor problem with your Lazer? I have the exact same thing happening with my Lazer. Only 1200 hrs on it. Let me know. Thanks, George

Check the linkages on that side as well as the recoiling shock attached to the linkage. I believe the shock is become worn out.

I'm not sure if the toro's I've worked on are similar to these but are you talking about the neutral adjustment spring right above the pump linkage rod?

i am in the middle of replacing the pumps on my scag TT. had the same problem. ive been in the process for like 3 months now working like a GOV. employee. ill probably replace both pumps and motors just so its like a brand new machine

Hey guys,
Thanks for the great info. I will check the linkages. If I go from full forward and slowly bring it back to stop, then reverse it does just fine. Once I get the problem fixed I'll post what fixed it.

hopefully set screw on linkage is loose. If not its a pump. Once oil heats up it acts up. Had a few of those.
