View Full Version : Cutting TIF419

Does anyone have any experience cutting a grass called TIF419? It is relatively new and is much more like a vine than a grass. I am having difficulty cutting this "grass" with a rotary mower. The suction causes the vine like grass to get pulled up as a mass and causes it to get scalped. Low lift blades offers no solution to the situation. Cut area looks very uneven with yellow areas were it gets scalped. Just looking to see if anyone has any experience with this.

Tifway 419 is a hybrid bermuda grass. You will find that mowing it with a reel mower will give the best results. Being winter now you can educate yourself on how to prepair for spring, how and when to scalp it this spring, when to fertilize, and so on.
If you plan on mowing bermuda lawns made with Tif419 I would suggest on looking at a quality reel mower. Seeing that this grass grows best when mowed at 1/2" - 3/4" you will never get that done with a rotory mower.
You will find more on the web if you search "Tifway 419" instead of tif419.
