I went into a local dealer to test drive the Scag Cheetah and i loved it. It was a 61" 32 HP Vanguard the sticker price on it was $10,799. I was gonna buy in within 2 days so i asked the sales guy whats the best price he could give me because im coming in the next day and buying it. He said $10,799 was the best he could do. I did some reaserch to see how much they go for and $10,799 is the MSRP! I was not about to pay full price for it so I told him i was going elsewhere to buy the same mower since he couldnt give me a better price. And now that I see guys on here, not one person has paid over $10,000 for a Cheetah. So glad i did a little reaserch before buying. So what i dont understand is why he couldnt come down on the price? he wouldnt even give me a free oil change or blades or anything!

I paid $9991 before taxes for mine with a 36 Vanguard on it. I was told the 36 is replacing the 32 for the same price so if you want the bigger engine look around. I didn't demo the 32 but glad I got the 36. Really love the mower so far. And yes, $10,799 is full retail.

$10,799 was full retail on a 34hp kohler 61" cheetah here. you should be able to get any of them under $10k.

that one will cost a bit more since it's got a bigger deck. probably $1000-$1500 more.

Was this the dealer in Oxford, or the one in Highland?

My dealer was offering the same machine with the 72" deck for $10,600 + tax.

Some dealers just aren't willing to negotiate price. The local Exmark dealer here is that way. He sells lots of them, so he has no incentive to negotiate on a single machine. And that's fine, but he won't get my business that way.

There are other dealers that want your business that will be more reasonable. Shop around.

This was Saxtons in Plymouth. The one in highland gave me a price of $10,500. Yeah im shopping around but the problem is Scags arent popular in myarea so its hard to get a good price on one. Ill be happy if i get a price around 10k like every one is saying here on lawnsite.

Did you ever check with Burdick Street in Oxford? They had them back a month or so ago for right at $10K.

I have not called Burdick Street yet. Im going to tomorrow. Its about 15 miles away from where i live so its not too close. But before i make the decision does anyone have anything they dont like about the cheetah?

The B&S Vanguard is a B&S in name only. They are made by Diahatsu in Japan (who partnered with B&S in building the manufacturing plant there). Diahatsu is owned by Toyota. The Vanguards are very good engines, and on a par with Kawi, or maybe even a tad bettter. They do better on fuel as a rule than Kawi's do. I'm a diehard Kawi fan, so I'm not being biased against them here.

Yeah as far as the engine goes im set on the 32 Vanguard. They are very good engines. I just wanted to know if theres any major dislikes about the Cheetah. How does it do on hills? I went to another dealer today and they were the same price as everyone else. $10,800. But after some negotiation i got him down to $10,500. I think that is the best price im going to get here in Michigan.

Call up Suburban Lawn and Equipment in Wilmington, DE. I don't know there price on the machine but they always have the best deals. If it's good enough if would be more than worth the 90 minute drive.

Let me know what they quote you, I am going to contact them about the TT and Cheetah to get a 72" price.

Damn, maybe I was wrong about my shop having the best prices. At our 2012 Spring expo for LCO's I have two Scag prices:

TT 61" 27hp Kohler List: $12,225.00 Sale: $11,021.11
Cheetah 61" 921 Kawasaki List: $12,442.00 Sale: $11,263.88

I don't see how your MSRP was $10,799 and for a Kawasaki and Kohler it was $1500 higher.

Buy a Snapper Pro 200 Vanguard engine, ZT-5400 transmision (same as Cheetah), ICD deck cuts as good as Velocity and pay about $7400. Everybody thinks Scag Exmark Deere but there are honestly a lot better values out there.

What equipment do you run? How everything cut in the wet East Coast conditions?

I am wanting to say I payed about 10,500 for mine and that is with the 34 kohler and the 72" deck. I don't know why more people are not interested in the 34 kohler motor. It uses alot less gas, has more then enough power for anyone and is simple to service. I have used kohlers for about 13 years on comercial mowers and have been VERY satified with their performance and durability.

I bought a new Scag Cheetah 61" with the 36 vanguard this year. List MSRP was $10,599. I ended up getting the Scag before taxes for $9,400. So do your research and remember if they want your business they will work with you. Also don't be afraid to price around.

The problem with price shopping on a scag is they space their dealers out so much that you eat up your savings with fuel costs.

Also compare sales tax as well, a couple of % can make a difference

I have also been looking to buy a 61" Cheetah. A company near Dallas had a closeout on a 61" Kawi for $8,999. Just be patient and willing to travel and you will find some decent deals.

Not sure when they change these, but they are the mowers that you can get the best deal on

I saw a Scag Cheetah today with 61" velocity deck and Kawasaki 850fx.. dealer wanted $10,791. I thought it was kind of high.. and that was the national promotion price.. I'd swear I got a price a few months back for $9960 same vendor.
