I have my eye on two dumps for sale. Same color, same beds. Less than 30k miles and less than $25k. The ford has the V10 (my only option since I won't touch the Ford 6.0) and the Chevy has the 6.0. I know the V8 will be cheaper to maintain and will cost less in fuel. My only worry is that the 6.0 would be under powered building patios (90% of our work) and maybe there are some hidden issues with the V10.

I rah a 3/4 ton Chevy with the 6.0 and a 3/4 ton ford with the V10.
They get almost exactly the same gas mileage, in town, on the highway, and pulling a trailer. About 9 mpg in town and with a trailer, and about 13mpg on the highway.
The 6.0 is not a powerhouse, in fact, I hated it for towing a load. The V10 would pull better than a diesel, and has a ton of torque.
So, you will not save on fuel with the 6.0 and I bet you will hate the way it pulls a load.
Go with the Ford V10. You will not regret it.

Yeah, the 6.0 in my 2500 can't keep up with pulling 10k lbs, I only have the 3.10 rear end, but I was hoping this dump would be better than my current one. Too bad dealers wont let me throw a trailer on the back with 5 ton:laugh:s in it.

I would think you would also want to run the heavier chassis to . Which Ford are you looking at and what year trucks ?

I would rather have 6.0 with the 4l80E trans. Ive seen a few v10s break trannys.

You have to give credit where its due. The Torque Shift is a goods trans. One of the downsides to the v 10 are rusting manifold bolts.

I have a 6.0. Motor wise Id say V10. The 6.0 is good not great. But I like the smaller GM cabs for some reason they seem better to get around tight spots in which is what a little 1 ton is all about. Of course a D-max would be the best of both worlds.

The 6.8L v-10 is a great engine but if you can, go with the 05 and up models. The 3 valve engine is superior to the 2 valve engine!
