I would love to have one if they were still avail. Kubota quit importing them about 7 or 8 years ago. They looked like a great commercial mower.:(

i bought one from a guy for 20 bucks.it would run but blade clutch was messed up,wouldn't mow.took it to kubota dealer in chattanooga, about 200 bucks would fix it up.i didn't want to put that much in a 10 yr old push mower so i sold it to them for 40. what a idiot i was!!!---those things are shaft drive,it even had a bagger on it.live and learn-

I was just wondering. i knew they quit importing them, but you can still buy every single part on them. they are the best walk behind mower i have run across-the honda HRC-216 is a close second -basically the same design-only hydrastaic rathor than 2 speed gear box but dosen't bag as well as the kubotas. Thank you for your imput.

I've only seen one of these in my 11 years cutting and a home owner was using it , he said it was the best mower he ever owned.

Can you tell me where to find parts for these mowers?

My 19" non-self propelled mower is 19 years old, is on the original plug and oil, (I hope this does not offend anyone), I've only replace the the blade once and starter rope once. The tires are starting to peel plastic and the throttle cable is getting 'tight'. Yesterday, Jan 24, 2009, was the first time the mower died while running. I had not run in in two months, first time I'd left it outside too (lazy), and I suspect since it was running real fast (lean) then died, that a jet may be plugged. It starts on ether, but dies when that's burned up.
I took one jet out on the top of the carb, took the float bowl off. I suppose there is another jet somewhere that is clogged that needs cleaning. Any help on getting this done?
I bought this mower when my wife was working at Toro and could have bought a Toro 2 stroke mulching mower cheap but still opted for the Kubota. I think it may have been over $400. I don't remember. I cannot imagine or believe there is any finer mower ever built. The torque, ease of use, ease of starting, ease of emptying this thing is phenomenal.
The bag is starting to fall apart from sun rot on the plastic parts. It still start s on the first or second pull...third pull after the 2 month hibernation.
I was offered the self-propelled for the same price by a dealer going out of business but declined due to a need to force myself to exercise.
I mow 6000 sq feet of fescue and saint augustine with the mower.
If anyone knows of a mower like this for sale or parts whereabouts, please let me know. For a zero maintenance mower, this w5019 could not have been better.
I have the mulching kit and blade for it somewhere in the garage but never used it. It also came with a bagger, side blower and mulching chute plug. it has an aluminum deck, is light, powerful and typical Kubota over-engineered.
A real happy camper.

I just visited a Honda dealer and the picture you posted looks just like the Honda I saw, but looks nothing like my old W5019-PC.
I get so much grass, I'm always emptying the bagger. There is no 'trap door' on my model, so, all I do to empty is use one hand to grab the bag handle, lift up, and head to the trash bin. No second hand is needed to raise a metal flap or door to get at the handle. The unit has BBC blade break clutch too.
I must say that picture you posted sure looks a lot like the Honda I saw.

I had 2 of them. They were great mowers. Last year the second one blew the motor and I trashed it. The local dealer said there was no way to fix it and rebuilding it wouldn't be worth it as parts were few and far between.
It is a shame that they are gone now. I really liked them a lot.
just did a major craigslist score!!!
Kubota W5021 ... talk about happy... what an overbuilt machine!
purchased dead with starter cord broken for $60...he said it ran fine, but rear drive was broken. it looked so cool... took a chance.
replaced cord .. Kubota started on second pull... very quiet... the quietest mower I've ever heard. wouldn't idle, so pulled carb and cleaned out all passages and the three jets.
purrrred after the carb refresh... starts in one pull... idles great and runs strong. cleaned out spark until I can find a new one.
oiled everything on mower, cable, linkages, etc, including the gear box. freed up the engage lever by soaking in oil overnight, then slowly working it free. now two speed rear wheel drive works great!
yes.. Kubota W5021 has a shaft drive to rear wheels. it's the most positive drive system I've ever seen on a small mower.
this has to be one of the best built push mowers anywhere... if not the best. too bad Kubota quite importing these long ago...
but the parts support is still there. called my Kubota dealer and able to order an obscure sheet metal part for $12.90 that's part of grass path. the old one was bent... could have fixed, but when new is available that reasonable.. why not..
not all parts are cheap... the Kubota dealer wanted $53 for a front wheel. yikes... sure glad I don't need any other parts. except a grass bag... sure be nice if someone had one laying around they are not using.

deflector plate came in today... drilled/tap out a frozen bolt.
plate fits like a glove..
dealer has the grass bag for $81... cheaper than I thought

I'm new to the forum but I've had a kubota w5019 for 23 years. By far the best mower I've ever had.Sears carried these for a brief time in the 80s and parts can still be had relatively inexpensively thru their parts direct web site. Enjoy your "new" kubota!

Does anybody know if there is a mulching blade for this model or universal and if I would be commiting a sin installing one on it.
It has a good bag but don't want the bother and cable is on its last leg.
What would be the going rate for this one on craigslist, I wound like a very simple mulcher/smallest possible. I have a very small patch of grass. Thanks in advance.

Sorry. This machine is a dedicated bagger. IMO it won't mulch well even with the best of mulching blades. If you look at the design underneath, it is designed to vacuum up grass and leaves while it cuts and bags them. It does a GREAT job at that[ see the "turbo suction" label on the one above]. After trimming drop the deck down on the sidewalk and it'll vacuum the walk. It replaces a rake and a blower for the homeowner but it won't mulch. As for resale value, hard to say. There are so few out there. I guess comparable to what any other used mower goes for unless you come across someone who really knows them. Check what the going rate is for used push mowers and add $25 or $50 and see what happens. You could always come down. Not being a mulcher will likely put some people off however. You also keep it as a 'rake' for leaves and 'vacuum' and for when the grass is too high to mulch properly and get a used mulcher as the primary mower.

Thanks for the quick replay, I'll go ahead and keep it, its a great sounding machine. I just ordered a replacement blade at local kubota dealer and he has never seen one for $14.00

Hello .
I have a good question about this model to . Does anyone know what the valve gap is sapose to be ? Ive got the w5019 with ohv and I did some carb cleaning . I actually took it all apart and cleaned out the bowl. Took the jet thats on the botom out and the one thats on top of the carb . But Im getting this speratic running .It starts easy. But when I go ahead and give it full speed it runs up to speed and at any given time it studders but still stays running with a few puffs of black {Rich} smoke out the muffler . The plug is velvet black. It has new gas but not new oil . I oiled up all the linkages and now move freely . I dont see a govonor paddle when I took off the pull start. Runs great at idol .
Thanks for the read any hlp would be great.

Robert, You say you have a mulching kit and blade for a W5019 (19 inch model). I am looking to improve the mulching ability of a W5021. What does the mulching kit look like? Is it simply a plug that fills the rear discharge chute? Thanks Parker

I have a W5021 - purchased in 1993. I bought the mulch kit which at the time consisted of a plastic plug for the shoot, replacement side skirts for left and right (similar to original, but extended under deck some), and a different blade. In my opinion, the mower never mulched well - much more suited to bagging. In the fall, I use the plug when chopping leaves.

Thanks for the reply. I would really rather mulch. I'll see if I can find a universal "gator" type blade that fits correctly and see how that does. Parker

I have two Kubota mowers, a W5019P and a W5021 Commercial both purchased in 1991 for $750 and $1300 respectively.
The P was always mine and the Commercial was my Fathers until his passing a few years back.
My W5019P has not done a lot of work as I lived on a small block and still has the original blade (see photo). I would clean it after every mow and found that the wheel bearings rusted after 10 years. I then replaced them with a set of sealed bearings and have never looked back.
The W5021 Commercial mowed 1/2 acre of grass around 20 times a year. It is fitted with flick back blades (not for US market) that have the tips from a ride on. These are primarily to protect the engine, however with the clutch system they are not really necessary.
Both mowers have non standard spacers above the blades to lower the mowing height to almost exactly the lower edge of the deck. Normally they mow around 3/8" higher.
The “turbo” effect is created by the plastic disk under the mower that sucks air from the very bottom of the engine and blows it up the catcher chute. In the photo of the underside you can see the gap in the collar around the plastic disk on the lower right of the smaller machine.
The engine is the same on both, however almost everything on the Commercial is bigger or better. Some of the extras are all day mowing petrol tank, front bumper/grab rail, stainless steel under deck liner, heavy duty handle, self propelled and steel wheels. The downside is that it is really heavy.
Getting details of these mowers is difficult and they rarely come on the 2nd hand market. Most of the search results for them are people searching for them, or lamenting not buying one that they found. I have included some photos below and you can see a Commercial in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNl38gJqo84

I have a neighbor that has one in his garage. Apparently he knows what he has because he won't take less than $300 for it. it looks brand new, however, so I'm tempted. 21" commercial. From what I read everyone likes them. show of hands... Should I pick this up?

If it is a W5021 commercial like new-$300.00-I would buy it in a heart beat. I have 12 of them-7 are operational and 5 are parts donars. I would rather use my wore out Kubotas than a new Honda-have both.

Haven't seen one of those in probably 10 years. All I can say is those things were real tanks. They weighed about 150 pounds but you could drop them from a tree and they would just keep running.
Wish we could still get those things.
