National no-call list

Is anyone besides me excited about this new proposed law? Aside from the time personally saved not answering the phone and interrupting my work. I think this law would change drastically how we deal with the true-greens of the business. Their marketing plan would have to change and I believe there pricing would to. They would have to do a better job to actually keep customers than simply replace them with new. Am I just dreaming? Could this be good? I personally think telemarketing and tele features(call waiting, answering machines, caller ID ) have affected society in a really isolated and rude way. People just don't answer their phones when they are home. I blame this on tele-marketing. OK off soapbox. What do you think?

telemarketing as we know it may change, but it will never go away. to much money is made with this form of marketing, the idea of it just going away is crazy talk. it will just evolve and we will figure out how to side step the new laws.

Mac, Sure, there is a bill pending that will allow you the consumer to put your name on a national no-call list. Tele-marketers will have to check this list before they call. They will not be allowed to call you if you have requested not to be contacted. Charities will be exempt from this.

No Call is great. We have had a state law, tougher than the upcoming federal law, for over a year. IN list is an OPT IN - you must phone in or apply thru web. New list published every quarter, includes all old numbers plus new applicants from current quarter. All on IN no call list will be put on national list. National list is not as restrictive as IN, but IN residents will still benefit from state law.

Some exceptions in state law, more in federal. But our attorney general has prosecuted, so law is observed here. The day you are published on the list, your telemarketing calls drop to 0. Exceptions include charities, some other non-profits, and businesses with which you have had a prior relationship (poor ex-Chemlawn customers, LOL). One aggravatingly noticeable exception this year - calls for political candidates.

We have it here in Ky. Works great. I feel like I can answer the phone without looking at caller ID. :)

Federal law is the only way to handle this. Too many boiler rooms with 800 numbers.

I think a special caller ID for phone solictors is the way to go. Only each phone has the ablity to automatic set their phone not to accept calls.

Ric, Who is the largest fert and pesticide company in the US and how do they market?

Here in Ar, we have what is called a "do not call" list. Anyone can get on this list. No one telemarketers or solicitors can call you without breaking the law, unless its a creditor or someone like that, that you do business with directly. Its great, the phone calls stop! If you do get called, then you can report that person to the state and they will be contacted and whatever action will be taken.

The national no call list is a great idea. The way I do it is, I always let the answering machine pickup first and if it's someone I know, or want to talk to, then I will answer. Every day our machine always has hangups on it, probally from telemarketers. My cell # is listed on the machine, so if it's REAL important they can reach me.

All the lists my company buys have the do not solicit customers plainly marked.

I'd say this post/bill is behind the times.
