View Full Version : 2003 Chevrolet W4500 Landscape Truck - $7000- Charlotte NC

I am selling my 2003 Chevy w4500 landscape truck (same as an Isuzu NPR or NQR). Its has a v8, 6.0 liter gas engine. Currently has 107,500 miles. I still use the truck daily so the mileage will increase. It has a 12 foot open landscape body with a 4 foot dovetail. The body has spring assisted split gates/ramps. One side of the body folds down (helps with mulch jobs). It has a lockable storage shelf.

I bought the truck at the beginning of the year from a local fence company. It had a stake body on it and I purchased the landscape body and had it put on. When I bought it, I changed all fluids, had it inspected, put new tires on, new front brakes, new spot mirrors, a new windshield and rear mud flaps.

The trucks needs new front rotors. When you stop hard, the truck will jump jump jump. I should have done that when I put the brakes on but you know how it is sometimes.

Truck has working air conditioning and heat. Has working lights, windshield wipers and a working radio/CD player. Seats are decent.

I need to replace the passenger side mirror because I knocked it off on a tree. I have been waiting on mecklenburg county to reimburse me for that but I will fix that before selling.

The bad: passenger side door has a dent in it. I bought the truck this way with no intentions of fixing (since its just a work truck).

The bad: there's a wiring issue of some sort going on that will cause the check engine light to come on at any random time and the truck looses function at the gas pedal. I took it to W&M truck clinic and they said it gave the code p1518. So we replaced the o2 sensors, sparks plugs and wires and put a new throttle body assembly on ($800 worth of work- I have receipts). Three weeks later the same thing happened. The check engine light came on and the engine derates, meaning you loose gas pedal function. This time I had it towed to Steele creek tire and auto. Same code, p1518. So they looked up service bulletins and found a common error with the ground wire (code g103). They reattached my ground wire and the code went away. I thought the issue was fixed. Well a month later, same thing...check engine light, truck becomes undriveable for a couple hours. Side note: turning the truck on and off about 6 times usually clears the code.

I called rush trucks and they said its probably the wiring harness. However I'm done with the truck. I financed a new one today and am putting this one up for sale.

You can get rotors from napa for about $140 each. Not sure how much the wiring harness is but I heard they are expensive. I am selling the truck "as is" with this known issue.

I WILL PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC for whomever buys the truck (usually around $125) but the repair cost will be on the new owner.

You've got it priced right. These trucks are great, we have 2. Sounds & looks like you're being forthright w/all that's needed for repairs. Good luck w/the sale, someone will get a very fair deal.

Any interest in trade for a 2003 chevy 2500HD with Knapheide utility body and a dual fuel CNG system on it? CNG is 1.56 today in Birmingham. (The CNG system is only missing tanks, but everything else is in place). The storage is ridiculous, and a high end box.

Full service tune up last year, New transmission about 15k miles ago (130k on the truck), fresh ac tensioner, belts, tires are 6 months old, two new control arms up front. Some paint is peeling, but its in really good condition. Never had a tow hitch on it until we installed one, and I would only let it pull a 5x8 trailer.Had it detailed 5 months ago, but could probably use a rinse.

i don't even know what a knapheide body and the duel thingy is ... so i probably don't have a need for it.

as far as trades go, i'd do....
1. $5,000 and a 6x12 (or larger) enclosed trailer
2. $5,000 and a 36 or 40" walk behind
3. a 2005-2009 suzuki gsxr 1000 sportbike (outright trade)

It's a utility body, tons of storage. A lot of irrigation guys use them around here, I use it for a utility truck for customer repairs and always stocked with parts I need.

The CNG dual system lets you run on gas or Natural gas. Right now, natural gas is half the cost of gasoline, but it needs tanks. This system would have cost 10k to have installed, if you run out of CNG it automatically switches to gasoline. Seperate injector manifold, interior LCD display showing fuel level and operational condition. It's a utilitarian truck with the ability to save mucho $$ in fuel, I just haven't had time to install tanks. Now that I think of it, I likely shouldn't be getting rid of it.

My International 4700 had the same issue. Replace your throttle positioning sensor attached to your pedal. It will fix your issue.

I was thinking the same thing, had a friend spend a few hours on the side of the road with the same issue in a frieghtliner.

Sorry dont mean to hi-jack the thread. Just trying to help with a resolution for the sale.


The main thing was the pedal itself (rust from salt...etc) running it out of range causing the engine to run in safe mode. I had to buy the pedal and sensor as one unit, about a $200 fix. The truck has never run better.

As I stated, I replaced the entire accelerator pedal assembly. The throttle position sensor is located inside of it

update: truck is in the shop as we speak getting the electrical issue looked at again. so the electrical issues should be fixed at time of sale

I keep coming back to wanting one of these type trucks. What size and how many mowers do you carry on the back? Can you get 2 60" xtr's up there?

yes if you turn them sideways. the 60s are probably 61"-62" wide with the chute up. so they'll fit

Is the price going up once you get it out the shop? Nice looking truck are you selling bc of the electrical issues or just got something newer?

well, kinda. the electrical issue frustrated me to the point of buying a new one. sounds crazy right!!

i done the loan/paper work for a new one last week. i haven't technically bought a new one yet. will probably change my mind once i go to the dealership friday and see that big $54,000 headache on paper.

i am mainly thinking about going back to an enclosed trailer. which is 80% of the reason i'm selling. the landscape truck is costing me about $550/month to operate (gas, storage, insurance). i bought it with the idea that it would make me 'more' money. instead, it's shaved $6600 off of my yearly gross

UPDATE: truck is fixed (or will be in the morning). shop said that i had a "frayed wire in the cab wiring harness" and was certain that this would fix the electrical issue

Wow!!!! $54 g's. Imagine how much that will shave off your gross. The payments alone will be more that $550 a month. But hey we all need write offs. Will you be driving the truck around to see if the problem has been fixed?

yea! my gut is telling me NOT to get the new truck, so i probably won't. it would be a stupid purchase and i'm not n2 that.

i will be using the truck until it's sold. i have one lawnsite member that wants the truck saturday. so i will be driving it til then
