I've got some small areas I'd like to put asphalt down. I don't think its big enough to call someone in. What would it look like if I bought some Asphalt spread it out with a skid, and rake, etc and ran a packer plate over it? Also What Should I expect to pay per ton for asphalt?

It will look fine. Blacktop around here runs $69 - $90 a ton depends on which plant.

i had the same question. If your not looking to go out and buy a paver can you get away with a skid and rakes without having to work for peanuts per hour?

I get $2.50-$4.50 a sq ft and half the time it comes out better by hand you just have to have good rakers or you'll be kicking yourself in the ass if you just get any joe smoe off the street to help

I have had good luck using my 36" grading bucket on the mini excavator and scooping and dumping and rough grading and then smoothing everything with a wide rake then roll it for big areas or wacker for small areas. Just coat everything really good with diesel or youll be spending time with a torch and scraper

dont need a paver. if your truck has an asphalt chute do it with wheel barrels and hire a good raker or two.

then throw out your boots ans swear you will never do it again

I'm always amazed at how many people don't understand the concept behind raking. Maybe they should start teaching it in schools.

How does a ton convert to cubic yards. I know how to do stone but is asphalt heavier?

L"xW"xD"x110 binder or 115 for top / 18000 will give you the tonnage.

And blacktoppers call it luting not raking. There is a knack to luting as not evryone has an eye for it.

Its really rediculous how hard it is to find good workers these days. I have 2 good guys right now but I've gone through so many guys that dont know their ass from a hole in the ground.
