Following up the thread with the retaining wall failures I was looking at the reconstruction pictures and they were using Geo Foam. Seemed interesting and maybe an alternative back fill material?

Has anyone ever used it? Is it one of those things architects spec that's a neat idea but incredibly impractical when it comes to actual installation?

Cost?

I can see were it has a purpose, however by the time your done playing around with foam you would be better off using conventual materials we have used for years. I would be willing to bet it cost an arm and leg

It seems like a horrible idea to me. I have never seen it used or spec'd

I seen a flyer on that stuff years ago they use it up north to help alleviate the problems with roads and permafrost. I would never use it I can see water issues with it along with I could see somone 10 years from now diging into the stuff to put a water line or somthing in, it would be one hell of a mess + doesn't styrofoam float?

Often foam products are used to create terrain on green roofs due to the lightweight nature of it.
