What is your #1 seller that you cross-sell to current customers besides mowing? I want to hear some results. My #1 sellers are landscaping maintenance (pruning shrubs and weeding/weed prevention of landscaping beds).

Fertilization, both lawn and shrubs. Ask one of your customers when the last time it was their shrubs were fertilized.

spring clean ups and applications last yr.

but that was our first yr doing apps, this yr it will likely outsell all but mowing...

Spring Tine raking (similar to but not true dethatching) Huge seller in the spring, followed by apps.

Core aeration, overseeding, tree pruning....etc. We only think of mowing as a way to get "in", not as a money maker. Mowing is secondary to everything else.

I will go a little outside the topic, but on installation work, take some additional plant material. Make sure it is returnable. Most homeowners tend to go light on plant material but when you put it in place and say "well this is what it would look like" you can sell-in some additional material.

Lawn dethatching is HUGE for us in the spring...couldn't be easier on the Walkers either!
Seems like everyone & there grandmother wants it if you offer it to them...

I would have to say dethatching, then shrubs.

Spring and Fall clean-ups, we get a ton of leaves up here and people hate doing them.

everything but the mowing.

You know it is funny that we all try to get bigger and faster mowers. And when we do we lower the price.....

That is the main reason that I don't concentrate on mowing. I prefer applications and landscape installs. They are my biggest money getters. I offer mowing to stay out in the biz so to speak. You are on the property more so you are able to get those little extras. But my concern is when the ecnomy starts to go south... And it will just watch. The extras will be hard sells and there you are with low prices on mowing and a big debt load.

What I getting at is we all need to look and the whole picture and not have the so called loss leaders to stay in the game.

Fall clean-ups are number 1 best seller after lawn maintenance. I have a large number of customers that I do just clean-ups for. Some are spring and fall. For the amount of time spent vs. the amount of money made, you can't beat the ratio. Next would be applications to the lawn. A good money maker is also landscaping up grades or changes. Usually get 6 - 8 regular customers who call each spring to completely change their landscape.
