View Full Version : lights as options on the Lazer?

Any chance of Exmark including a light kit as an option. I have seen some add them themselves. I saw that BushHog has them mounted in the front center. Wouldn't work with the Exmark but I have seen them bolted directly behind the front tires. Wired into the hour meter with a switch in line.
Interest is on the LZ27LKA60.

Hey gunpowder,
The light kit project was on the list of things to do, and then it was off the list of things to do. To be honest, I don't know where this project currently stands. We've always struggled with the whole area of attachments and accessories. If possible, we try to outsource these projects. I'll check and get an update to you guys.
I know some individuals have come up with inexpensive light kits for their Lazers. One of the things you have to worry about when doing this is overtaxing the charging system. For instance, most engines have at least a 15 amp alternator. The clutch takes 6 amps, and the charging system takes 3 amps. These leaves a maximum of 6 amps for the lights in over to provide enough charge for the battery. Anything over 6 amps will run the battery down and cause weak pull and torque capacity of the clutch. When this happens, the clutch will slip and prematurely wear.
The 27-hp Liquid Cooled Kaw's. have a 30 charging amps, but 15 to 20 are used to power the electric fan. You may only be working with a minimum of 10 amps. This leaves you with only 4 amps for lights (after you subtract 6 for the clutch). If you decide to put a light kit on your Exmark (LZ27LKA604), be sure to keep it at or under 4 amps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Gunpowder & Dustin,
I think a light option is a good idea. I run a Lazer Z HP with the 27HP Daihtsu diesel and mow 15 acres of northern grass. I often find myself pushing to beat sundown. No problem when there's full moon, but lights would really help see the stripes and tire tracks. When it gets too dark, I have to switch to the Kubota belly mower and that is way too slow. Thought about mounting a pair of small halogens on the Exmark, but just didn't get around to it yet.
I'll be interested in seeing what you recommend.

Do they have to be mounted to the ROPS?

Sounds good! Will they be an option or standard equipment on the 2004 models? When will pricing get to the dealers. I will soon be getting quotoes around for next year.

Guys,
The lights will not be standard equipment. The light kits will have a suggested retail of $99 and should be available in January.
The mounts are designed specifically for the ROPS. If you want to mount them elsewhere you'll need to fabricate a mounting bracket.
This is just one more good reason buy buy the ROPS at the promotional price of $179. All kidding aside, if you ever wanted or considered a ROPS now is the time to do it. List on the ROPS is $319
Thanks
Terry

I just glanced at the literature packet you guys sent previous owners but I gathered ROPS was going to be standard equipment for 2004 +. I trade every year.

Gunpower,
You are correct.
I think you'll also like several other changes for 04. You may want to contact your dealer for a demo. The 04's have been popping up all over the country over the past couple of months.
Thanks

I always educate myself on new changes before delivery. I am a not-for-profit nature park selling old/buying new every year. I advertise/sell the old machine as having low hours and being a specific year (2003 this year).
I caught my dealer delivering a 2002 this last spring to me. It was fairly easy to spot the difference and a bad experience for all involved.

When will the light mounting bracket price incrase? Do lights mount on the top or bottom of the ROPS? Can you post a picture of the lights on, in the dark?

DD,
The $179 is the ROPS. The light kit and mounting bracket like everything will remain at the $99 for the foreseeable future.
The light kit currently mounts to the uprights or vertical tube on the ROPS.

Hey Terry,
What bulbs are used in these lamps? Halogen perhaps or maybe LEDs? Can't draw too much with just 6 amps to work
with.
Thanks,

RS,
The light kit has two 35 watt Hallogen light assemblies, wiring harness, switch etc.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Thanks

Those are a hundred bucks? Holy MACeral! Just my thoughts, but I think they should rethink this in the marketing division. It is just too easy to hook up lighting for it to cost that much.

I hope they are rugged and bright in such a apparently small package.
I used the mowers on smaller hiking trails on a non-profit nature property. Lots of tree limbs to catch such objects. Same with the ROPS. Hate to have to trim 5 miles of trails wider. Any volunteers?

Do you have a pic of them on in the dark?
Are these made to extend cutting hours?
Are they vibration isolated?

Hope your flash is bright, if you can't turn it off, cover it with your finger or something.

Hey Runner,
So, you think $99 is too much? I'm a pretty handy guy with all the welding equipment money can buy. In the past I've done a lot of wiring and feel very comfortable with it. But... If ya spent, say $40, for materials you would have less out of pocket expenses. But... you'll likely spend more time on the installation than with the kit. Time is money and unless you've got lots of free time, like during the coming winter, you'd want to minimize the time you spend on lighting and maximize time earning dollars. And then there tax aspect of this. Dollars spent will be a business expense. Time spent is time lost. So if you've got paying work to do then it may be a false economy to not use the kit once all things are considered!
And Terry,
How many of the available 6 amps will the two 35 watt bulbs draw? Actually I guess I should ask if my
44', 17hp, LazerZ-HP will have the same alternator and available 6 amps as the above mentioned Z?
Thanks,
RS

No, it gets dark around 6 in August, so is it possible to actually cut with these? How's that pic coming???

DD,
I would never recommend making a habit of cutting after dark, You'd need one of those mondo killer sun in a can lights they use on the police choppers you see on TV to get enough light to really be safe, accurate and do your "best" work. The light kit isn't really intended to allow everybody to go out and cut at midnight. It's simply there to help guys like yourself to finish up at dusk. If finishing a job in low light conditions such as dusk is what you’re looking for the light kit should do the job.
Thanks

Hi Terry,
I have a 2001 Lazer Z with a 26hp EFI Kohler engine. Will the charging system on this support one 55 watt halogen light.
Thanks for the help,

Ed,
Our new light kit uses two 35 watt lights for a total of 70 so you should be okay.
The light kit should be available mid April and retails for around $99.
Thanks,
Terry
