View Full Version : Fungus? Brown Patch or Dollar Spot?

Sod laid out a few months ago. Tall Fescue. My FIL put it in (without much prep work or any thing).
No fertilizer has been put in, but it's been hot close to 100F here (San Diego, but east of the I-5) the past few months, so I didn't want to fertilize.
This is just one spot. We've had it in other areas as well. This spot grew quite big in one day.
EDIT: I have to add that the spot is pretty big. So perhaps not dollar spot. It's 10" in diameter or so.

That doesn't look like a disease. Got any animal's ? That could be a urine spot. Spilled anything ? That look's a lot like gasoline damage.

No animals, but I do see cats hanging out on our lawn occasionally ... Ugh. Anyway to make them hate my lawn?
A few other spots I talked about

I cant help you with the cat's. Those other picture's just look like drought stress. New sod doesn't have a very large root system and you are on top of sandy soil. And you are in climactic zone 10b. You have to go to southern Florida or Hawaii to be in the same temperature's. That could dry that fescue out. Let the heat back off and the rains (does it rain there?) come. Here's a map for you.

Actually it looks like grey leaf spot if that was St Augustine. Or grey leaf spot meltdown where it has gone bare

It's Performance (Tall?) Fescue. amazingly enough, my water programmer was jacked up, and station 3 was labeled station 2, so it wasn't watering on that side.
I fixed that and upgraded all the sprinkler heads for better coverage and it's slowly coming back. thanks!
