Under ideal conditions, properly installed, etc... What would you say the longevity is on average for sprinkler heads that are purchased by homeowners from the "Big Box Stores" VS the higher end sprinkler heads that many of the pros use in a new installation or repairs?

I've had some of the Rainbird 5000 in for 5 years. A factor to consider is your water. A high mineral content (lime) or algae from lakes will settle around the inside and cause the rotation to quite. Even the hot sun will disintegrate the plastic if above ground. But generally 6-8 years for professional and about the same for the box store one since they are about the same just labeled differently. Basically just watch them. The ones (1500 Series) with the blue filters tend to to plug quickly.

I had a pro install my system 15+ years ago with a combination of Toro and a few other brands of heads I cannot remember. It runs every other day during the summer. A few are starting to stick in the "up" position that I'll have to replace next year but I've had good luck overall.

That I do, I'm wanting homeowners visiting the forum to get the views from the irrigation pros here on this forum.

The person in the irrigation department at the Big Box Stores seldom have the field experience but they often try to pretend they do.
