Well guys hope this post doesn't open up a can of worms. I was wanting to know which mower has the fastest MOWING speed. Hustler or a DC?

Good question bob..... How fast the next guy might mow can be quite different no matter the ground speed of any particular mower.

IBGreen

Well bob, the fastest speed you can cut at and still do a quality job with is what I was reffering to as mowing speed. As opposed to ground speed which is how fast will the thing will go.

Nevermind, I guess everone elses' mowers cut perfectly in tall grass at 15m.p.h.

Can't answer the question exactly, but. My Exmark Lazer says 9mph top speed. I cut at full speed very often and it cuts great.

With a question like this you are going to get personal views not hard facts. Test each and tell us what YOU come up with. Better yet, buy one of each and the one you don't like sell to me for a substantial loss.

I don't know what type of ground most people on this site mow, but most of my mowing is rough enough that anything over 8 mph to 10 mph is about all one can do and still stay on the machine - Kind of like a bucking horse after that

Exactly! Thanks flex, that is MOWING SPEED on average am I right?

On a good big yard with thick zoysia I would say I cut at about 6mph. These are nice houses with thick yards.

Ok who is the fastest of all the ztr mowers?

How does that ferris mower work with its suspension?

Horsepower to horsepower and equal size cut the bladerunner is the fastest of all of them! Not just ground speed but also mowing speed. Now you cannot compare a 25hp gas bladerunner on a 72" mower deck and expect it to outmow a 72" 41hp disel dixie chopper or a 25hp hustler against a diesel dixie or a bladerunner. If you are comparing the fastest machine in each individual manufacture produces I would still say bladerunner is tops.

How about that jet powered Dixie Chopper or the Mustang that Jesse James built?

grassdaddy
01-29-2003, 04:04 PM
the dixie and the super z both claim 15mph,I rode both at expo, one right after the other.the super z blows all others away except the chopper.if the super actually goes 15,then the chopper goes at least 20.I would say,due to higher blade tip speed the chopper should mow faster too.--but i'd take the super z!!:D

I remember seeing somewhere that one or more of the new BladeRunner's did 20 mph!
Realize of course this is transport speed only! Why bother with a big truck and trailer, just have a little cart behind the Z for your blower and trimmer, etc. and drive to accounts with the mower and unhook the trailer, mow, hookup, trim, blow and your gone! LOL most residential areas have 25mph speed limits anyway. Man most parks have 10 or 15mph limits, try to get a ticket with a souped up deisel 72" lawnmower LOL. That'd be hilarious.

Bob, I beleve if we had the guts to drive them.

A. This would be faster than the dixie. It would certainly handle better since it has twice the wheel base.
B. JJ That is a car! not a lawn mower.
C. This thing was built to cut grass. And was our lawn mower for four years. I personally had it to about 30 mph and that was low gear and very little throttle. Country road and little guts. They can make anything work on TV!

Drove a dixie chopper, drove a hustler super z and drove a bladerunner. Bladerunner wins in the speed and fastest cut of the three. Ferris is smooth but slow and the cut is not good at it's highest speed. Dixie will cut faster than the hustler but the hustler will outrun it in a drag race.

Nick

dixie wins, I think the jet engine one goes 80 mph

johnhenry
01-29-2003, 07:35 PM
Bladerunner is the fastest that I have seen.Hustler & Dixie are also both very fast.Ferris isn't that fast but is the best machine for hills by far.But I wouldn't mow over 10mph esp here in the ozarks .Too rough for the operator to go any faster than that

1grnlwn
01-29-2003, 08:54 PM
Nick, You ever see a caster oscillate at 8 mph. Now multiply that by 10. Anybody see that thing in person going fast? (TV don't Count) or even mow for that matter. Its a prop. , get over it. How can it have any stability at any speed when it can't even hold a hill?

So we all agree that the BLADERUNNER, HUSTLER and the DIXIE CHOPPER are the fastest ztr mowers in the industry.

Mine only goes 8mph....so I guess im outta the fastest grass legal mower.

ok- I am one of the ones who raced these bad boys', super z's, and dixies against each other. the super z beat all in drag racing, and rode the best. Our Super Z cuts at top speed in thin grass and smooth turf, but most grass at 8-10 mph. the transport speed does save time, and you will push a machine as fast as you can when you can. I have never seen or even heard of bladerunner. I am out of the loop. Dave g

One day i used our GPS to clock my airens ZTR and I came up with 8.4 mph. most of the time when i do my ball diamonds i could easyily go 20mph. but they get rolled every year by a 5000 pound ashpalt roller

Not sure how fast, but from the FACTORY - Dynamow has a very fast machine. There aren't too many of them around either. Very hefty $$

Flex-Deck

It still boils down to being able to stay on the machine - 20 mph is only for transport - at least around here - If you tried to go 20 mph mowing - you would end up in orbit, and you mower heading south on its own - aint no way you are going to sit in the seat on the terrain we mow at 20 mph.

Thanks, Brad - PS - if your trailer system is set up with ramp gates etc, it is faster to load and move that to drive to other places, then drive back
Lookie - no Pic.

I've seen it moving in excess of 20 mph easily. The day I saw it the mower was in a small area and probably going at least 30 mph. It was also very obvious that it wasn't even close to topped out. If you get a change to see it you should. It is incredible to watch.

Oh, and Dixie Choppers do hold hills very well. I operate mine at 25 degress all the time.

We raced the Bladerunner, Super Z and DC at the BBQ in KC last fall. The bladerunner had the highest top speed.

I tried to challenge them (the three running the race - dixie - bladerunner - hustler) to run against my JD 455 and they all backed down: or maybe they just giggled - but it does boil down to - "how fast does your property allow you to mow"

Anytime big boy! My Dixie against your JD rider. Drag race...cutting ability...manuverabilty...

You name a spot that's halfway between you and me...

And on top of that I will whip you in appearence. Who has the best looking mower?

My Dixie will whip any other "working" mower out there in the appearence catagory. Bar None!

I've already won local competitions. I might as well make it national.

I've become a fan of DC's lately, but they are not asthetically pleasing. They look like they were built in somebody's yard.

What did you do, buff out the stainless?

All I have to say is that if you've got a machine that will travel at 20-30mph then you wouldnt need a truck-LOL!!!

Since most neighborhoods are pegged about 20-25mph, just get you a set of trimmer traps for your edgers and blowers and forget the trucks and trailering. Just think how much more efficient your operation will be $$$-wise w/o all the added expense of truck and trailering costs -LMAO!!!

Yeah, it'd purdy. I don't know about no astroturf. I'm just a simple man who takes pride in what he's taken time to buy. Wanna bring your mower around for a look?

Nope! I'm proud of my kids and things I make with my tools. Mowers are just tools , I could never be that proud of something somebody else built. My dad and I built the fastest mower up top. See that's why I'm kinda proud of it. Of course that was back in the late seventies before anyone ever heard of tim taylor or dixey choppr. Thats all.

I agree the dixie as well as the bladerunner look kind of plain but I really like the idea on both machines being simple and easy to service without all of the gadgets to go wrong! The bladerunner I had was very easy to service and really would flatout mow!

Why don't you have the Blade Runner anymore? Which model was it and how well did it cut and stripe, price too. Thanks man sorry to turn this into a questionairre. Thanks in advance!

I had a 25hp robin with a 60" cut mower deck. It really cut well and was fun to drive. The reason I do not have it now is because a few months ago I was in a wreck and lost my trailer truck, trimmers and my mower. Insurance has settled and I plan on a diesel version of the mower for the fuel economy as well as the extra life of the machine. The model I had was a deluxe version which sells for around $9000. The diesel that I have been looking at is a 27hp water cooled and they are around $12000. There is talk about a lower priced diesel comming out but I have not seen the announcement yet. Oh and as far as stripping I can say this it does a much better job then my gravely 260z does and it is a lot faster! I do not think you can go wrong with a bladerunner but I also feel that a dixie and hustler would be a good choice as well.

If you are looking at diesel I personally feel that bladerunner has the most advanced diesel engine on a mower currently.

The fastest production mower's that I have ever drove and did a good job mowing would be either the dixie chopper twin engine mower or the Bladerunner 32hp diesel. I have never mowed with the bladerunner 42hp diesel but after running the 32hp I do not see why you would need anything else!
