That's exactly what I came up with when I ran the sq ft through my formula. $50 per app. I would have offered a 5% discount if they pre-pay the whole season = $237.50 That doesn't include grub control for me.
The formula I use Is:
(1000 sqft X $4) + $20 = $ per app.
This is the high side. low side is
(100 sqft X $3.50) = $10 = $ per app for large properties with little or no weeds.
I'm Useing mostly Lesco products.
Hope this helps

Nobody in their right mind is going to pay $230.00 per ap for a standard subdivision 1/2 acre lot unless the material is gold. Around here, a 1/2 acre lot goes for around $55.00.

I dont want to put my words in someone elses mouth. But, He meant he charges $3 to $4 per 1000sq ft of property. $2.50 per 1000sqft on over an acre.
For the sq footage you listed I would be at $40 per application. 5 step program for $200. I guess I am low, but thats what I would charge.

Sorry for bringing back an old topic but what should I charge for .5 acres? That's around 21,000 sq ft right?

My five step program which includes crabgrass and broadleaf weed control and grub control in round three will cost the customer $44.00 per 1000sf treated, total package. In your case I would charge that customer $330.00 for the years program. This would cost roughly $66.00 per application. Keep in mind that each application actually costs different my round one and three are my most expensive at 13.00 per K. Other variables may change the price such as drive time, and condition of lawn for starters.
I hope I got my numbers right as I typed this quickly, DINNER IS READY.

Now it's 330 including the fert? Or that's just for labor?

That would be for everything including weed control in each round if needed, labor is included. FYI Imostly use Lebanon products with MESA nitrogen.

Lesco is high in my opinion.
This might confuse some but a rule of thumb to get you in the ballpark would be to calculate what your given bag of fertilizer cost per 1000 sf. and multiply it by four. For instance my round one application is Lebanons 22-0-6 with Dimension. One bag costs me $33.00 and covers 11,000 sf. at the recommended rate. So knowing that, 33 divided by 11 = 3, or $3.00 per thousand is my cost. Cost times four = $12.00 per thousand square feet. My charge for round one would be $12.00 per thousand square feet applied, or in your case that 7500 sf lawn would be $12 X 7.5 = $90.00 for the first application. That multiplier usually gets me close. That should cover things like drive time, insurance, equipment maintenance etc. Keep in mind like I posted earlier round one and three are my most expensive applications so dont think that I am getting $90.00 per application every time I go out. Rounds two four and five are roughly half the cost of one and three.
This thread isn't about hidden costs to the operator but those costs need to be factored in. DONT open that can of worms otherwise your thread will get hijacked by someone complaining about low-ballers and what their hidden costs are.
FYI, my pricing structure is lower than the big guys in the Chicago area, ie. TGCL. Not by much but I do use that information as a selling point if the customer asks.

wouldnt it be 12x21 because 1/2 an acre is 21000 sf?

How can guys stay in business doing 1/2 acres for $55? The fert alone would cost $25-30 at real decent prices. That's charging less than $3/k! Wow, competitive huh?

i would prob be around 60-65 per app... this includes 2 crabgrass and 2 post emergent...grub control would bring the price up a little more

i guess i just do it like this...cost of product+30% markup, and labor/time to apply it, at my rate hourly....works out to be pretty comparable to rates on here i've read.................this way i guess customer just has to see if a certain application costs me more, then it costs them more

Wow!...I guess I missed THAT one big time! lol
HarleyD,...Yeah,...it sucks, but that's what many companies around here charge.....especially the bigger ones. Granted, they don't deliver anything - just a middle of theroad mediocre program, but that's what they do. While many of our lawns ARE around 62-65 bucks, I run across these customers who are used to paying these minimal amounts all the time.

If you do your homework and find a wholesale supplier your can get a 50 lb. bag of fertilizer for 18-20 bucks a bag. I just bought 25 bags of 25-5-11 for $18.25 a bag. 2-3 dollars more with weed control pre or post.

Look at the posting date...It was 1/30/2003 when he made that comment. Still low, but not as bad as if he was charging that price today.
